It was an offensive explosion at Haas tonight, as Cal made easy work of Adams State in their season opener, 115-86. Cal was bigger, faster, and more athletic than the Division II Grizzlies. The Golden Bears were up by 10 in just over seven minutes of game time, and the outcome was never in doubt.
Sammie Yeanay was the most impressive player, scoring 21 points on 6-of-8 shooting. Yeanay also added a game high five steals, several of which led to spectacular dunks. In his postgame comments, Coach Mark Madsen indicated there is more to come from Yeanay;
“This wasn't the game to really see it, but Sammy has the capability of really just making his teammates better with his passing.”
Michael Cooper scored a smooth 24 points, highlighted by 6-of-8 from three point range. Nojus Andrusaitis scored a career high 20 points.
Cal struggled against Dominican University last year, a school and team with a similar profile to Adams State. This end-to-end game is a nice palate cleanser to open up the season.
We’ll have more analysis and opinion after Cal’s game Wednesday night against Radford.

We looked like a legitimate P4 program with P4 talent. And we didn't see Dort. Got some huge early tests next week against Houston and USC. Could be humbling, could be euphoric, but will definitely be enlightening.
This team looks like it could be better than last year's to be honest, and this was without Dort.
