INSTA-RECAP: Ole Miss Defeats Cal 88-78
The Rebels make 58% from deep on a blistering shooting night
Ole Miss jumped out to 20-10 lead 8 minutes into the game and never looked back as they beat Cal 88-78 Saturday afternoon in San Antonio.
Ole Miss displayed excellent ball motion through the contest, compiling 21 assists against just 8 turnovers. They shot 52% for the game, including 58% from 3-point range (12 of 21). The lead grew as large as 24 points midway through the second half. Cal continued to battle and managed to get the lead down to 8 points with just under 1 minute remaining. Ole Miss would convert their free throws and come away with the 10-point win.
The Rebels’ Jaemyn Breakfield scored a season high 27 points, including 5-of-7 from long range. Cal was led by Jaylon Tyson’s 22 points. Devin Curtis played 6 minutes, his first acion of the season. The season plan was to redshirt Curtis, but ND Okafor’s ankle injury pressed Curtis into playing time.
Cal falls to 3-6 on the year. The Golden Bears return to Haas Pavilion this Wednesday at 2:00 pm, to face the UC-San Diego Tritons.
