Jared Goff inks 4 year, $212 million deal, now the second-highest paid NFL player
Cal now has the second highest paid NFL player and the highest paid NBA player.
It’s been quite the year for Jared Goff. He led the Detroit Lions to the NFL Playoff, their first division title since 1993, and their first playoff wins since 1991. He has been serenaded with Jared Goff chants from Detroit to San Francisco to the NFL draft.
And now he’s inked a massive contract that makes him one of the highest paid athletes in NFL history. Four years, $212 million.
Goff's first rookie deal was a four year, 27.9 million deal after being drafted first coming out of Cal, and he signed a four-year, $134 million extension with the Rams in 2019 after their Super Bowl run. His career earnings are already at around $161 million, so this deal with $170 million guaranteed will bring him to $331 million lifetime. He would trail only Aaron Rodgers ($342 million in career NFL earnings) among Cal NFL players.
With Jared Goff signing this contract with the Lions, Cal currently has the 2nd highest paid NFL player per year ($53 million), trailing only Joe Burrow. Cal also has the highest paid NBA player per year (Jaylen Brown, $60.8 million from 5 year, $304 million deal).
In a calendar year, our Golden Bears have netted over half a billion. Come to Cal! Build generational wealth.
Let's hope he makes a contribution to Cal in the form of an NIL endowment. Best wishes to him as a loyal Golden Bear.
I first saw him play when he was in high school at Marin Catholic High. He was in a State playoff game, which Marin Catholic won, to advance to the State Championships. It was a game with Sutter High played in Oroville, Ca. I saw then that this tall skinny kid had a great arm and accurate as heck. Then when he showed up on the Cal roster, I knew we had a future great one.
