Looks like there is another QB recruit and who the coaching staff is clear as nails by the twitter tags: https://x.com/Dom_Ingrassia14/status/1876396661368672714 No bloesch or gilbert. Those two coaches have left the building.

He was coached by post-WSU Nick Rolovich (who was an assistant or advisor, not sure) at San Marin High in Novato for the 2023 season before playing at CSM this last season.

we also got Jordan Moko, OL from the 49ers

Can we get Trent Williams too?

This guy has good size. Players come in all shapes and sizes. It’s a question of using what you have to good advantage. Though Sagapolutele doesn’t look especially quick, I hope he can make up for it with his pocket passing accuracy and ability to see over defenders. The name reminds me of another Cal player from years gone by with quite different dimensions. Remember all the hype about Sam Sagapolu? An especially low center of gravity offensive lineman who was a solid contributor in the early nineties.

Just to clarify, if this is a transfer, then he can't transfer again unless he sits out a season or if he graduates?

Expand full comment

I don't think there is any sitting out anymore. I think it's transfer as often as you want. I assume is still has his Covid year.

Sorry..reading fail. Was thinking this was a response to Chandler Rogers transferring.

Chandler Rogers entered the transfer portal. He's headed to 6th school.

we're 4th place among ACC members in transfer portal recruits now

Despite this Adam Rittenburg at ESPN+ still has Wilcox on the hot seat. I have to think that with JKS he will at least have one year to see that he can win close games. If the cookie had crumbled better Cal would have had nine wins in 2024 instead of six. https://www.espn.com/college-football/insider/story/_/id/43275282/college-football-coaches-hot-seat-2025

He should be! Stoked about JKS, but you can’t assume with any certainty the kid will develop and take us where we need to be. And under the portal system he and everyone else be gone in a year anyways. There are never any guarantees, but never more so than now.

If we had a reliable kicker and the targeting call vs Miami were called, probably at least 2-3 more wins.

Go Bears!!! Such awesome news! Should help in the portal I would think, particularly at wideout. Is he enrolling early?

I hope Fernando reads this.

I wonder how many receivers would have transferred if they knew that the Bears were getting the highly touted quarterback.

Expand full comment

Probably same

Expand full comment

Probably right. With 2 returning RBs and an improved OLine Wilcox should be able to find receivers too.

Fernando who?

Watching his tape a bit more and he reminds me of a bigger Penix with that sublime lefty delivery. Like Penix, he’s not super elusive yet. So he’ll need a lot of protection. Most of his tape has him throwing from a very clean pocket.

*a bigger Penix*... phrasing

LMAO

Well see...he hasn't touch a Division I field as of yet. Plus, I get a little skeptical when a 5* that goes from program to program because you go in the room and say wow I got competition to get on the field! Usually, a guy that knows he's the best will ball out so everybody knows that he should be on the field, so when his number is called he's ready its just a matter of time before he becomes the guy.

Expand full comment

Thanks, but I think you're misinterpreting my comment here. I'm only saying that his delivery reminds me of Penix. Not that he's a guarantee to reach that level or that he doesn't need considerable growth to become whatever his destiny to become. A lot of folks think he'll be starting on Day 1. I'd be worried if that happens, cause I don't think he'll be ready and I think we'd be assured of a rough season.

FBS Portal Ball: If he’s great, he’s gone.  If he’s good he stays.

I hate that this is absolutely right.

As do I.

So now we have. QB, great duo RB, hopefully a better Oline, better kicking. Too bad that we lost some receiving threats. But other than that, I’m feeling better than I did a couple of months ago!

And we still have the same HC. Not sure if the definition of insanity is doing the same thing over, over again - in this case is the same HC - over, over again. Good vibes though.

Haha. Good vibes is right! Positive thoughts!

My kid keeps using the word "vibe" so it rubbed off on me during the holidays.
