Was Tosh involved with recruiting JKS to Oregon?

After thought I know coach wilcox gets a lot of flack but please understand the program as a whole is a lot better than than he inherited, academics, culture, infrastructure, modernizing with one hand tied because a inept AD and no true backing ijs we should be grateful to be bowling 3 years in a row and have our savior qb ( he also recruited a no star qb into a heisman ) who came because he believed in Wilcox. It’s okay to love Tosh but not be disrespectful to a man who was loyal to the soil , go bears 🐻

We all love Wilcox. Most comments are appreciative of what Wilcox did for us.

Indiana is proof positive that the right coach can completely change a program.

Indiana were literally THE worst program. They had 713 losses, more than any other program, and were 3-9 the year before Cignetti arrived. Cal are definitely in better shape than they were.

Let's hope Tosh hires good coordinators and puts together an O-line reminiscent of the Alex Mack days to protect our loyal quarterback!

Ummm... were we indirectly responsible for knocking the ACC out of the CFP picture?

In my opinion, Duke should be in. What's the point of winning your conference or even having a conference championship game (aside from money, obviously) if it has no actual bearing on the field of 12?

Let’s knock every one else out next year and take the spot!

Duke winning the ACC championship would be an unmitigated disaster for the conference

Disaster. Only hope for the ACC is the committee likes Miami resume better than Alabama (which they won’t)

Mendoza is throwing passes to Jonathan Brady in the Big 10 championship game. This is the first time I'm watching Mendoza this year. He looks pretty much the same as Mendoza I've known for the past 3 years. Surprised that he's a potential #1 NFL pick. Good for him.

We get to enjoy JKS because Mendoza transferred. Turned out to be blessing in disguise

FWIW, I am happy for Mendoza and hope he gets the Heisman (and credits Cal for helping him get there…)

Mendoza is a lock to win the Heisman, the only question is how close to unanimous it will be.

Last year JKS flipped commitment and Mendoza transferred and everything went downhill. JKS ended up at Cal and he turned out to be just as good, if not better than Mendoza, but the team lost all the surrounding skill players.

This year JKS stays and will attract a lot of talent at skill positions. What a turnaround.

What makes this even crazier is that he took a commercial flight to get this done.

Expand full comment
napabear's avatar

That is even more impressive. I assumed he used the same plane they flew to Berkeley from Eugene. I'll bet he told them to send his family back on that and said Southwest is good enough for me.

Expand full comment
Justbear's avatar

I tracked that flight. It seems to be usually flying Scottsdale AZ and Westchester NY. It flew to Eugene for that one trip, and it immediately flew back to Scottsdale after it landed in Oakland and dropped off Lupoi family. The family might have flown back in a private jet, but not the same one. I looked it up because I wondered if the university owned a private jet, but it looks like they don't.

I was pretty confident that Cal did not own a private jet. I guess if it’s Cal, that would make it a public jet!

So now we have a highly-credentialed coach in place, a two-time NFL coach of the year to mentor him, a University adminitration that (finally) understands the link between a successful football program and alum engagement and the best freshman qb in the country coming back for his second year. I'd say a pretty good recipe for success. Buckle up Cal fans!

I don't know how many will enter the transfer portal because this team is going to be better next year so why would anyone want to leave? But we'll need to make room to bring in alot of talent via the transfer portal. We'll see how it goes.
