Juhwan Harris-Dyson entered the NCAA transfer portal Thursday.
Golden Bears faithful will remember this is not the first time Harris-Dyson has looked into another school. He also entered the transfer portal on April 14, 2019, after his stats slumped his second season. The guard's productivity as a second-year dropped to an average of 3.8 points and two rebounds per match, compared to his first-year averages of 6.2 points and 3.4 rebounds.
Harris-Dyson returned to Cal for his junior year, staying in the portal for just nine days, after California named Mark Fox as head coach of the men's basketball team.
The Northridge, Calif., guard appeared in 13 games, starting in only one, in the Golden Bears' 2019-2020 season, averaging four points and 1.8 rebounds per game. He was left out of the team indefinitely for academic reasons, missing the second half of his junior-year season.
I wonder if JHD could've been an impact player with better luck and better circumstances. He could really get to the basket when healthy, but the finishing wasn't there and there wasn't much offensive structure either. More on this tommorrow, but if I had confidence that the open scholarship would be put to good use . . .
When he played I loved watching him on defense as he reminded me of Jorge at times. But he never showed a rounded game. If he has been having academic trouble, we can all sympathize. I just hope he gets his degree from a good place that will help open doors for him in life, like Cal does. I can't count the number of times I've gotten interviews because...Cal.
