Kennesaw State Men's Basketball Head Coach Amir Abdur-Rahim Has Interviewed at Cal
One of the top names on the Write for California coaching board
The search heats up! Our first confirmed interview is with the brother of a Cal legend.
Somes notes from our 2.0 Big Board:
Current Position: Kennesaw State Head Coach
History: Brother of Cal Legend and Current NBA G-League President Shareef Abdur-Rahim. Spent time at TAMU (14-18) as an assistant and then also at Georgia under Tom Crean as a lead recruiter. Was pivotal in recruiting #1 Pick Anthony Edwards to Georgia
Why: A Cal connection via his brother would lay the groundwork to his connection to the Cal fanbase and community. He would bring P5 recruiting experience to a program in dire need of some recruiting wins. Coming off a NCAA tourney appearance he is a hot name in college basketball right now.
Stock: Rising but cautious. His stock is rising but the collapse of a double digit lead in the first round of the tournament might draw some reservation.
Jeff Schultz, an Atlanta based writer for The Athletic (@JeffSchultzATL), is reporting that Kennesaw St and AAR are trying to work out an extension...a few hours ago, he also claimed :
"Abdur-Rahim is not believed to be a serious candidate for the Cal job. But it would still behoove KSU to get him locked up to a new deal."
FWIW. Believe, don't believe.
From a purely emotional standpoint, I kind of hope it's him. I don't know why, just gut instinct. My second choice is Pasternak. If it's Miles or someone like him, Cal basketball is dead IMHO.
