Probably the biggest offseason of Mark Madsen's coaching career, and a legacy-defining one for his time in Berkeley. Gotta find a way to keep a majority of Andrej, Wilkinson, Rytis, JOJ, Omot, and Mahoney in town...can't keep making wholesale replacements each season.

Hopefully there is some roster stability, which is unfortunately almost unheard of in this idiotic portal/NIL NCAA world. Let's hit up that CALegends.com!!

I love madsen, but the team feels sloppy and under coached. Poor plays drawn up.

After 10 years of futility in both hoops and fb, at what point do you have to look in the mirror and recognize that maybe sports just isn't our thing. When you have more Nobel laureates than championships or all-Americans, you're clearly an academic school. Sliding into the Big Sky with Davis, Sac St., Cal Poly etc. might give us a better chance to compete. We would have a legit chance of finishing middle of the pack in that conference rather than being a perennial bottom-feeder in the ACC and cannon fodder for the likes of UNC, Duke, Miami, Fl. State etc.

Comments and write up say Cal mbb is underperforming.

I guess that's on coach Madsen ...but who can blame him..this is Cal athletics..another season or two like this and he'll get a big extension and salary increase.

First off, Madsen needs to figure out this team's focus issues. We go for like 10 minutes at a time where we just don't care about the ball, lose 5-6 possessions to lazy passing (there's really no way to butter that one up), and start settling for low percentage clunkers. And then something flips and we start playing good basketball again. Roster deficiencies aside, that all comes down to coaching and needs to improve.

Second, I agree with Jimmy. We need to keep this core together and work on recruiting blue chip guards. His strategy of bringing in senior bigs who can functionally do their job has been pretty successful the last two years, but the entire team can't be relearning his offense every year. Separately, I think at the 1 & 2 you really need to recruit from high school because nobody's letting an elite guard transfer out due to NIL.
