I would agree that there are (hopefully!!) better options out there than both Stan and Travis...I would also hope we can attract someone with a little more upside than both.
How does a program driven to irrelevance attract a decent candidate, like, who would want to come willingly to this coaching graveyard? From what I've watched of the tourney thus far, no to anyone ever associated w/ Sean Miller, including past & present AZ. No boring AF middle-aged white dudes a la Fox 2.0.
Abdur-Rahim or bust: upside, Cal connection, seems likable. But again, someone's gotta love the total rebuild idea...
Well sure, it's actually a total build, but again, if donors are doubling the HC salary and giving him NIL authority as has been reported, then it's actually not as awful of a job. Plus, working in their favor is that there are not a lot of P5 jobs currently open.
Wouldn't be the least bit surprised if they actually land a good HC from a mid-major and immediately win 10-12 games NEXT year. It's totally doable - 1 good player from the portal plus a scheme change could work wonders.
Also wouldn't be the least bit surprised if the program investment rumor from the donors is total BS, Knowlton absolutely schits the bed yet again because he's a total boob and Tim Miles is the next hire.
Bob, when have you, WFC posters and Cal fans NOT known me to be honest about Cal sports? You'll never have to wonder where I am coming from!! ;-) ;-)
So there's literally a whole bunch of guys I'd be totally ok with that are realistic candidates....Danny Sprinkle, Stan Johnson, Pasternack, Amir Abdur-Rahim, Ryan Odom, Chris Victor (tho I don't see him going anywhere after Alex Pribble took the Idaho job), Mark Madsen, Darien Devries, etc.
Probably easier to have me give you a list of guys I would be disappointed with, in order of most-to-least: Ben Howland, Tim Miles, Shantay Legans...I don't view Leon Rice or Mark Pope as realistic options...
Bob, they are not in NCAA tournament. Johnson has not led a team there in his short coaching history thus far.
He should be like a 3rd tier candidate.
"good" is not good enough. I want at least something exceptional in the resume. Decuire has 2 NCAA and conference championships to his name at least.

Can assure you Jim Knowlton is no fan of mine, Bob. ;-)
