Mark Madsen immediately reaffirms commitment to Cal, quashing BYU rumors
The California Golden Bears men's head coach emphatically announced his commitment to Berkeley.
Our little anxiety attack about possible changes in Cal men’s basketball lasted about 24 hours. Mark Madsen released a message today essentially ending reaffirming his commitment to the California Golden Bears, ending speculation that the BYU Cougars might pursue him as a coaching candidate.
On behalf of myself and Hannah, we want to thank every single member of the Cal community for your unconditional love and support this year. We have felt welcomed and embraced. Gratitude would be an understatement. We love Cal and the Bay Area. We are excited and fully committed for the future here at Cal.
Over the coming weeks, you will continue to see outstanding student-athletes committing and signing to Cal. We are building something special. We will win. We will continue to send players to the NBA. “The Haas of Pain” will be in full effect with rabid students and fans.
To Cal Bear alums----Let's continue to build more NIL opportunities across each and every sport at Cal. As we move to the ACC let's support the "California Legends Collective." Let's become a national leader in NIL. Cal is a world class institution with world class athletics. An honor to be part of the community. Mark & Hannah #GoBears
With a recent two-year extension that keeps him in Berkeley through 2030, Madsen’s mind seems to be firmly set on the recruiting challenges ahead to rebuild his 2024-25 squad as they get ready for ACC play. He made it clear that the first thing on his mind is NIL, and his hope is that Cal fans will be willing to donate to help him get this roster in place.
It is a great to have a coach who is proactive to the modern age of news, and understands the new way of the world in college athletics. Let’s donate to the Cal Legends Collective today and support Coach Mark Madsen in his efforts!
Awesome. Short of an unprecedented miracle season, the best we could have hoped for was exactly what Madsen did. He reinvigorated an apathetic fan and donor base and created some buzz around the program. He had Haas absolutely rocking for a few games this past season when the season before that it was a mausoleum with 500 people in attendance.
As the British would say: "Top man."
