We know we have a head coach who is a top notch human being and leader, but he is not a yahoo egotist promoter type. He needs to surround himself with people who can do the footwork to recruit, and then introduce himself as the person who will shepherd young men to great growth on and off the field. This is a great move for Wilcox, and Cal football, and thus us fans. I'm still eager to hear what is happening on ST.
Heck yeah! Glad he and Wilcox stayed on good terms, and happy we're giving him a bigger opportunity.
The timing seemed to work out, too – with Riley bringing in his own staff to USC, and Cal/Wilcox negotiating larger football resources post-Oregon interview. Not the first time timing has worked in our favor for hiring (don't think we'd've landed Greatwood if Helfrich wasn't canned post-2016 season, or DeRuyter either).
Hopefully this is a great first fruit (or second fruit if you count the new DB coach) of the push for more resources that Wilcox apparently received. Top-25 recruiting classes, improved offense, solid defenses = formula for success.
On the surface it would appear to be a win for Cal. We shall see. How long will it be until he is poached, yet again, by some team with bigger dollars? And why, if he is so good, did he leave U$C? Did he leave or did Riley say we don't have use for you so start looking around? Obviously for one year he did a good job at Cal but that isn't a large body of work. Anyone's grandmother can recruit to $C, one individual can't be given credit there, it's more the history of $C that attracts recruits. Recall that Tuiasosopo once received "recruiter of the year" while at $C but didn't do jack at Cal. Marshall actually did do well at Cal, for one year. Let's see how long he stays this time. Overall positive for Cal and if there is a year Cal needs to recruit well this is the one.
OK, so Riley booted him, ty. I know it is his alma mater and thought if he is soooo "good" they would retain him given his experience in the PAC12 footprint, I guess Riley didn't think so.
This is very big news. Marshall was a huge lift on our recruiting efforts, having him in the program will hopefully rebolster our ability too land top talent next year.

Tui was the lead recruiter for both DJ Rogers and Jermaine Terry. Can't blame the Rogers situation on Tui.
he left for USC cuz that’s his ala mater and he left USC cuz Riley wants to bring in his own guys

Honestly, Riley has been the best west coast recruiter of talent in the past couple of years anyways.
Or, just liked his guy better/had a longer standing relationship, etc...
Great news!!!
THIS IS HUGE!!! Welcome back Marshall! You returned from the dark side of the force. We welcome you back into the light
