Maybe they’re not preparing for Wake Forest?

Sigh....my mistake. Got WF and FSU crossed since the quotes were WF heavy. It's been updated.

Mark Madsen getting 1 vote out of 86 for ACC Coach of the Year illustrates the major uphill battle Cal faces in this insane era where 2 Northern California schools find themselves part of the Atlantic Coast Conference....

i figured Scheyer would win, but surprised that Madsen (Like Charmin Smith last year) did not get more recognition for massively exceeding preseason rankings. Uphill battle indeed.

I thought he should, too. But I guess expectations were actually raised a bit based on our roster - for instance, Evan Miya put us just about on target based on preseason roster rankings: https://evanmiya.substack.com/p/roster-talent-reigns-supreme?utm_campaign=post-expanded-share&utm_medium=post%20viewer

Evan’s sharp, tho I still think they overachieved.

TBH, that preseason ranking seems rather ambitious considering the total roster overhaul and number of unproven players at the P4 level.

Plus, it assumed a healthy year from Rytis, a full year of Dort (not missing him for 1/4 of the year), and contributions from their top recruit, who didn’t play a minute.

Not saying MM should’ve won ACC COY, but he did more with less IMO than Luke Loucks…

If Madsen went undefeated in conference, I'm sure he'd get at least 2 votes...

Go Bears! Even up the series with FSU.

With both Furd and Va Tech going down, Joe Lunardi must be so sad. Maybe a win against FSU saves us?

We would need some help.

*Ole Miss over Texas

*Pitt over NC State

*Northwestern over Indiana

*Mississippi St over Auburn

*Louisville over SMU

….and of course, Cal over FSU.

Then a New Mexico L on Thursday…

even though he has a great resume maybe mad dog is not the coach that can take us to the top half of the ACC. I feel like this may be the ceiling we can achieve and if so it will be hard to go the big dance.every yr. a serious reevaluation of coaches, player development, recruiting etc

I think you're wrong. I think he's being hampered by a large NIL deficiency that doesn't allow us to poach experienced bigs while also filling out roster depth. This has been our best roster yet, and we have a freshman 4 coming in next year alongside Ruff being healthy (hopefully) and another year from Petraitus. If we can hold most of the roster together and find two 5's, it should be exciting.

You, my friend, are totally wrong here. Look at the improvement of players that have come to work with Madsen. He is a great coach that inherited a terrible situation and has been under-resourced (relatively low NIL, no dedicated practice facility, etc.). Given the circumstances, I am very happy with how far we have come since Bald Fox.

Mad Dog is cooking and you would have to be a masochist to pull the rug on him!

My mistake, I proofread the article but not the headline. It's been corrected, and a good reminder to triple check before hitting 'publish.'

I apologize for the ill-advised comment, Don. I've deleted it.

All good.I appreciate the energy. Now let's all channel the passion into rooting for the Bears.

I have as well, OB72.

Still salty after losing 2 of 3.

Let’s get FSU Wed.

Echoing what I said to OB to channel it into rooting Cal on.
