College Basketball Recruiting: Obinna Anyanwu Commits To Cal
The forward will join the Cal program in 2021-22.
Class of 2021 forward Obinna Anyanwu has signed with Cal men’s basketball. Anyanwu attends Cathedral Catholic High in San Diego and received offers from 11 schools including Colorado, USC, Arizona, and Arizona State. For Cal fans, the fact that he chose to join the Golden Bears should be considered a pleasant surprise.
The 6-foot-7 Anyanwu is known as a physical player who likes to score inside but has bolstered the effectiveness of his jump shot over the last couple of years. He has good rebounding ability and could be in the mix to start down the road for Mark Fox.
One of the highlights from Anyanwu’s junior season was a February 29 victory over Torrey Pines, which had won 15 straight games prior to facing Cathedral Catholic. Anyanwu’s Dons ended up winning the San Diego Section Open Division boys basketball championship by the score of 59-51.
Welcome to Berkeley, Obinna!
We're starting to get better caliber recruits - this bodes well. Welcome to Cal Obinna!
This recruiting class is getting stronger. With this recruiting class and better classes to follow, I think Cal will begin to contend in the Pac-12. Would love to get back to the Monty days where Cal played very disciplined and executed fundamentals very well
