College Football Recruiting: Oregon 3* LB Patrick Hisatake announces commitment to California
Bears grab a future pass-rusher
Patrick Hisatake, a 6’5, 240 lb outside linebacker from Portland, Oregon, has committed to California. Hisatake plays at Westview High and chose the Bears over offers from UCLA, Arizona State, Utah, Colorado, Maryland, Kansas, Arizona, Washington State, and Michigan.
Hisatake posted an IG TV video on his Instagram account to highlight great Cal moments and his decisions for choosing the school; he later Tweeted to reinforce his commitment and to thank important figures in his life.
Hisatake is friends with current Bear Muelu Iosefa and current commit Fatuvalu Iosefa, stretching back to when Hisatake lived in Hawaii.
Hisatake is a consensus 3* recruit. He has been named a player in the 2021 Polynesian Bowl. Last year, he played at the small school of Clackamas High before transferring to Westview High for this upcoming year.
With Hisatake’s commitment, the Bears have picked up their 15th recruit of the class and their second linebacker (Moses Oladejo committed a few weeks ago). With his body type, though, look for Hisatake to end up playing on the edge.

Welcome to Berkeley, Patrick! GO BEARS!

Oh man, his tape is a delight. http://www.hudl.com/v/2C1gDm
He is a physical freak.
He very much looks like he's a legit 6'5" with a very long wingspan and rare speed/quickness for someone of that size.
He comes off the edge a lot - and he should because his outside speed rush is very special. Like a baby Pain Train. Despite being tall, he can dip his shoulder under a block and turn the corner with a crazy burst of speed that leaves o-lineman gator-arming after him. He doesn't give up when he's beat, but he recovers and still gets in plays. He has a huge arm span that blocks big parts of a passing lane. He trails plays in a low position ready to change directions. Just a brute even as a junior, let alone his development until he gets to Cal.
He reminds me of Gabe King. And I mean this as a compliment - a guy with freakishly uncommon physical traits in height, length, speed and potential. I am confident he'll have a better career than Gabe King, who couldn't quite live up to the hype. Again, Hisatake is a fire-breathing dragon and I look forward to watching this new batch of 6'3" to 6'5" 250 lbs-plus beasts patrol the box. Weak against the run? No more. We seem to be arming ourselves well against the recent swing towards size/power to counter Oregon/Washington/Stanfurd/USC. Some less physical teams are going to get smashed in the mouth with this new cohort.
This is a very, very good recruiting class.
Last year our signed class was ranked 39th, this year with only 15 commits we stand at 29th....woooooooo!
