Daniels is the key to Cal advancing up the conference ranks

She is obviously athletic with size to defend 4 positions

However she (and Evelien) are undersized to defend and score against a 5.

Her ideal position is a 3/4 but she doesn’t have the shooting to be a 3

Defenders play off her to prevent her drive and she hasn’t developed the midrange yet

But evelien didnt have a midrange her first 2 years and has a semi-reliable one now, so hopefully Daniels gets one too

Daniels FT shooting form and results much improved from last year, and she has hit a few short jumpers recently including yesterday so you can see the potential improvement

Daniels has learned how to score on the post with an array of shots too

I fully expect her to take a big leap over the next 2 seasons

Michelle is so long and bouncy and also quick off her feet that she gets a ton of rebounds

She grabbed several offensive rebounds or tipped the ball to keep possessions a live

That is talent and valuable

She has too many dumb fouls, but that is coachable and when fixed will keep her on the floor longer

Offensively she rushes… it’s like she plays only one speed but that little 5 foot outback shot was an example of making the right decision, and not speeding up, putting up a soft shot in a critical situation

Her FT shooting is also good

This shows me she has a ton of talent and as only a soph who has played fewer games due to Covid will be a very good player the next 2 years

Great article per usual Nick, ty. Michelle may have turned the corner and her upside is higher than DD, IMO. Michelle's continued improvement, should it happen, will be what elevates Cal for the next several years. It isn't clear if Michelle loves the game and is willing to put in the work (mentally more so than physically) to reach her potential. It remains to be seen.

For me it's simple

Oregon shot 0% from 3 pt range.

Cal lost.

Glass half empty, if you can't overcome that it's something to be said. Other ways to win HAVE TO come up when things happen. No excuses, not even for a young team finding their way.

Very fair. Cal had some lazy turnovers, missed critical FTs and multiple 3s that exasperated the situation. Oregun didn't show up to play and may have been "looking ahead" toward their next opponent ('furd). All of which should have ended with an epic upset for Cal.

this article covered a lot of ground, but I'll just comment on the game, which I just copied from my earlier post in the MBB story....

cal was right there and could have won that game ... 3 missed late FTs, and a lot of open 3 pointers, including 3 in one possession that didn't go down

not many times you are going to hold Sabally to 4 points, and the oregon team 0-16 from three

game balls go to Daniels and Michelle
