IMO, it depends on Sat...Shaw has our # & throw the records out the window in rivalry games. I think Cal wins, but it’s ugly, and unfortunately this is a ‘Furd team that did in fact stun OR so I wouldn’t be surprised if a rusty Bears team gags it.
But if Stanford loses ugly, who knows, there may be loud whispers....
Ordinarily I would agree about the head coach being in trouble if his team loses to Cal, but this is Stanfurd we are talking about...do they care enough?
They've been spoiled with years of success and I wouldn't be surprised if even they are starting to care about football. I could see a mutual parting with Shaw under the guise of wanting to coach in the NFL or something.
I think they could probably upgrade. In the media, the public perception of their football program is still riding high after Harbaugh's reign thanks to their "unique" ability to blend football and academics. It would be viewed as a high-potential job and they could attract good talent.
It would be stunning if Shaw were to leave. The issue for Stanford is trying to figure out what they are doing wrong that year after year the last few years is getting them so beat up that no amount of depth could compensate for it.
Funny I remember when they had a run with way fewer injuries than Cal, and we all thought they had some kind of magic training / strength / conditioning program that made them immune to injuries.
My sense is their seemingly endless run of health problems is not only leaving them thin in games, but is disruptive to practice. Shaw has always been about precise execution, and that's just not been possible with constant personnel churn.
Interesting to see you're another vote for having Cal so high. Even if I were to ignore all the post-Arizona COVID shenanigans, I can't fathom having us any higher than ninth. We *just* lost to Arizona. The high votes just feel like speculation, denial, and homerism to me.
I, for one, am constitutionally incapable of being realistic about Cal football. I'd have them third. And frankly you're reference to Homer Simpson makes no sense.
Always love the power rankings. Question: If the Lobsterbacks fire Shaw, should Cal fans be happy? Concerned? Is he likely to be canned?

Go Bears

Hard to see Shaw ever being fired as a legacy guy. I don't think too many Furd folks even think about the football team.

Tanner McKee playing is the key to this game. If he can't go then they're down to a 4th string walk-on and/or a wildcat QB.
Cristoballs lost the game for Oregun, I would've fired his ass and left him on the tarmac for that clock management at the end of regulation.

I don't really get what's happened to their offensive line, I don't think recruiting has been an issue there, so why such a precipitous decline?

Thanks Leland...good stuff!
You're welcome, but it's not just me--there's a team of great contributors (and even some not-great contributors!) who make this happen.
Well, if we have to put up with those other folks to get you, so be it....hahaha ;-)
I have no changes from last week.
1. Oregon. Furd loss looks like a bigger anomaly every week.
2. Utah. Had some trouble shaking Cats but that's still a two-score win on the road.
3. ASU. Gritty win in the rain in Seattle.
4. UCLA. Woke up in second half. Have won the ones they were supposed to win.
5. Wazzu. Hung with Ducks for a while, still disappointing to lose by 14.
6. Oregon State. Beating up on Furd without McKee is hardly a tall order.
7. Cal. Let's try to get out of quarantine this week, guys.
8. Washington. Pushed around by a good running team again.
9. SC.
10. Furd. Yeesh, are they awful without McKee. Still get credit for beating Oregon, though.
11. Colorado. Played a good first half against UCLA, then got vaporized.
12. Arizona. Gave Utes a game. For a bad team, they almost never get run out of the stadium.

Do you think Cal loses to AZ if we are at full strength?
We'dhave crushed them.
Our last two non-asterisk games were beatdowns of Colorado and Oregon State.
Nice placement of Cal, one of the few that gets it.
