Welcome back to The Good, The Bad, and The Rockfights, our weekly series in which we use PFF’s grades to put the most recent Cal game into one of three categories. When I ran the original cluster analysis to determine that there should be three clusters, the clusters roughly aligned into a 2x2 table. We had good offense and good defense (The Good), bad offense and bad defense (The Bad), and good defense and bad offense (The Rockfights). Of course, that only fills up 3 of the 4 cells in a 2x2 table. The missing section is a bad defense, good offense section that has been exceedingly rare under Wilcox. We saw plenty of that under Sonny Dykes, but that’s the opposite of the stereotypical Justin Wilcox team. So how do Saturday’s grades stack up?
