Trying to make sense of PFF's worst-graded game of the Wilcox Era
Did you make it through to the end of the second half on Sunday? If so, you watched Cal football make (recent) history. According to PFF, this turned out to be the worst game of the Wilcox Era. The Bears set new lows in defensive futility by surrendering 63 points and 597 yards, both new records for the Wilcox Era (the previous yardage high was 586 yards surrendered to Oregon last year and that loss displaced, rather surprisingly, the 2017 Weber State game’s 571 yards). Mercifully, offense was merely bad but we’ve seen many worse performances, including the Utah and Auburn games this year. Let’s see how our friends at PFF graded their usual array of categories and then figure out what kind of game we should classify this one as (the result should surprise no one).
