Productive but low-scoring offense + overmatched defense = another outlier
Last week we reviewed an abnormal Cal game featuring explosive offense and a mixed performance on defense. Over the last six years we have become accustomed to the opposite—solid defense and inconsistent offense—so the win over Arizona was a bit of an outlier. Well, what if we took what we saw against Arizona and made everything considerably worse? That’s pretty much what happened in Pullman on Saturday: lots of yards (on both offense and defense), few points for the offense, and many points for the opposing offense. Let’s get this over with so we can turn our thoughts towards the weekend when we…oh right, play no one and instead remain haunted by flashbacks of Jack Plummer under seige.
