Much thanks to the Cal community. Everyone turned out to keep the Axe, and when the Bears fought back and the crowd got really into it, Stanford broke. This win doesn't happen without you. We deserve to have a good team so we can do this every week. Together. Go Bears. Forever.

The 2022 Cal team has been wildly inconsistent. The offense goes to sleep for 30+ minutes each game while the defense, the cornerstone of the team under Wilcox, ranges from solid to suspect. Reflecting that variation, PFF’s grades have been all over the place this season. A few categories have earned the highest scores we have seen over the last six seasons while several have earned the lowest scores we have seen. In fact, the grades have been so varied that we created an entirely new category, The Pillowfights, to capture previously inconceivable, all-offense, no-defense performances. In fact, half the games this season have fallen into The Pillowfights as the team has spent most of the season moving back and forth between The Bad and The Pillowfights. This week that pattern finally changes.
