I believe the decision to release our Offensive Coordinator and Line Coach are directly aimed at trying to keep Jaydyn Ott at Cal. Let's see how our offense performs in the Big Game.
Of the linemen that have been playing and those out injured, who is eligible to come back for the 2023 season, and what is the potential for that line? I'd assume the ability to draw transfers to Cal would very much depend on the OC and OL coach named.
I have a totally different feeling after the game and now. I don't even remember how we sucked in the OSU game. Firing Musgrave can do so much. I hope the players feel the same too.
There is not much more to say. A promising season early on has devolved into another losing one. I hope we do not lose our freshman running back to the transfer portal.
Thanks for sticking with it Nick and for the WFC writers that provide us an avenue to commiserate and vent together since it is all we have at this point. Your point regarding Milner's absence is well taken. This was so damn frustrating! Give us a glimmer of hope! Let us see the future! Try something different for f****ing crying out load! I cannot overstate the frustration I felt when I saw Plummer back on the field at this juncture. Absurd!
One difference between now and 1960 is that that game was a complete sell out as were most Big Games in those days. I imagine they'll be a lot of empty seats on Saturday, indeed we might have one of the least attended Big Games in history.
3-7 for each team. One of the more futile Big Games in the Hallowed History of the contest. If we win than Wilfox will be off the hook. Note that Fox will be off the hook by osmosis.
Nick, great summary of OL and star ratings out of HS. I know this has been mentioned many times but this drives the point home 3*, IMO, equals potential with the appropriate coaching. Unfortunately that is not happening under this current staff.
C Bass: Excellent point. Alex Mack, one of the greatest Cal O lineman and a future NFL Hall of Famer, was a two star recruit out of high school but look what Tedford's staff did with him. Wilcox MUST get his next offensive coordinator and line coach right.
Wilcox is not going to get it right because he is the problem. I just looked up the previous employment history of McClure. He routinely had guys getting drafted into the NFL while at UCLA and had all league selections while at Nevada. Cal is getting 3-star linemen recruits out of high school, just like Oregon State and Washington State. But somehow the lines of those two schools just owned Cal this season.
The head guy has to be a leader and an overseer and has to have intuition early on when something is not working and fix it. I could be wrong on this, but I am guessing that the strength and conditioning program at Cal has been crap the past few years since Torre Becton left. Lots of injuries, guys getting pushed around, etc. If it was crap, and I am sure some more knowledgeable insiders could speak to that, Wilcox did nothing about it.

Thanks Nick. This article pretty much says it all.
Oski didn't even show up. He must have known something.

I think most of them have eligibility left.

Just got an e-mail from Knowlton via the Athletic Department: "Join Cal Athletics in our Campaign for Excellence!"
Are they that completely unaware how ridiculous this sounds at this point?
Or does "excellence" have an entirely different meaning over there?
If we had excellence we wouldn't have to campaign for it.
I had the same reaction! What crappy timing.
Well, someone's got to be excellent at sucking.
You don’t think employing Wilfox is a commitment to excellence?
Toss out the Records in this one. The good news is somebody has to win, and Cal has a 50% chance.
I'm against this. If you toss out the records then later need to look up a record you're screwed. Maybe make copies and throw those out.

In my head a turn-of-the-century newsboy is yelling: "Extra! Extra! Worst Big Game matchup in 62 years!"
Do you have access to PFF grades for Mettauer? How has he performed this season?
You've got me beat by five years. My first game was '64.
How about Craig Morton?
