One thing I’ve not seen mentioned is that Colorado looked really good (to me) against Furd, and UCLA looked good against them after early miscues.
It hard to tell because UCLA is capable of beating or losing to anyone, but it’s possible that they’re a lot better than last year’s record would indicate.
The most concerning factor to me was we got worse in the second half. This is a team we should be on par talent-wise with and we seemed to not make adjustments and get worse with more reps.
A really honest, and yet kind, analysis. It's pretty much in line with my take. I just don't read any damn thing into this season, not to mention this game. Another way to put it is that it is sort of like high school kids just showing up to play on a Saturday, and who is more talented and motivated? It's just a crap show for college football, especially Pac12, this season. So anything good that happens, hey Great! Anything bad, like this abomination, hey Whatever! Go Bears!
During the watch-along (hey, you should come join that), the question arose of when was the last time we blocked a punt. I mentioned that the last time I can recall was Chris Conte in the 2010 ASU game. Does anyone recall a more recent block?
After watching it, it was Hudson. They are both #11, but it's sad how our official website made mistake. And I still don't remember this play. I do remember Conte's block from 10 years ago.
I didn't want to read this until today. but now I'm scared because Nick has forseen the future with his do's and don't's.
Thanks Nick - great work, as usual.

According to calbears.com, Craig Woodson blocked UCLA's opening punt - Cal's first blocked punt since Hamilton Anoa'i at Oregon on Nov. 7, 2015.

Never mind, Anoa'i actually blocked the next punt. Cal blocked every single punt against Oregon in that game!
Wow, I completely forgot that we blocked two punts in one game so recently...
Let's put 11 guys in #11 on punts from now on!
Thanks Nick. A very rough game for the Bears, but I hope we can rebound next week.
Bless you, Nick.
Few of us would have the heart to produce an accurate, measured write up.
Thanks for a little optimism too!
