So get a kid that may redshirt and give a scholarship for a proven player that has won games and has the stats to back it up. Wilcox needs the best special teams he can buy because the games are always close.

Wow, you turn 30 and suddenly you're squarely in the Old Blues.

2023

Saw action in 10 games ... made 8-of-9 field goal attempts while going 29-of-29 on extra points ... also kicked off 13 times (51.5 avg) with one touchback ... scored first point in game against Washington ... made first field goal against Arizona State (37 yards) ... connected on a 20-yard field goal against Oregon State ... connected on both field goal attempts against Oregon (43, 27 yards) ... went 4-for-4 on field goals at UCLA (43, 36, 32, 20).

Have to correct 1 thing Berkelium recently posted "That’s a 9-game losing streak (in rockfights)". The Auburn win was clearly a rockfight, and a semiBig Game win or two in the string since 2019 definitely were as well. Heck, even this years' Cal-Davis game was a rockfight until after halftime, when the Aggies ran out of rocks. So its not quite the tale of DOOOOOM Cal normally associates with losing Wilcox rockfights.

Auburn certainly looked like a rockfight according to the eye test, but the PFF grades and our clustering algorithm disagree. Weirdly enough, it and the SDSU game moved into the Pillowfights category, which seems to be taking on more and more games that don't really look like the typical defense-optional pillowfight games. I think it's worth going back and revisiting those categories to see how they've evolved over time and closely scrutinize what kinds of games are fitting in each category. I suspect the Pillowfights may need to be renamed or maybe it's worth looking into seeing if the results justify adding a fifth category. Perfect timing, as we have a bye week so I'll have some time to look into that and write it up for next week.

First, the coaches need to teach Mendoza, and Mendoza should know well enough on his own, that when he has to scramble out of the pocket to avoid a sack, THROW THE DAMN BALL AWAY INSTEAD OF TAKING A SACK!!! He ws sacked while scrambling at the beginning of our last series. Losing 5 - 10 yards is a killer, especially when unnecessary.

Second, if we had made the first missed field goal, the dynamics of the game would have changed. Instead of FSU getting the ball at the spot of the kick, we would have kicked off. Maybe FSU would have run different plays or maybe there would have been different results. Maybe they would have scored. Maybe we would have had a pick. Maybe we wouldn't have had a chance at another field goal. The results of each play most likely would have been different. I want to scream when I read that people think that even if the results of one play changed, that all following plays would either be the same as actually happened or that the results would be the same. Aaaaarrrrrggggghhhhh!!!!!

Where is the kicker that we had last year? He was the most consistent kicker in some time. Let’s get him back!!

Baghani?

Kicking for FUCLA.

Somehow, we managed to let him go.

Luckhurst?

He "retired." But he might be worth inviting back for next year to see if he's improved. He certainly has the leg, if not the accuracy.

His field goals for UCLA were one of the highlights of the Bruins' shellacking by Indiana

He may not have had the distance, but he is/was consistent within his range.

Yes, I think Coe may have gotten some for this season.

I still think he can come around.

Always enjoy the game summations. I said many bad words last Saturday night. If the OL can be improved, we will win more games, if not, there will be more bad words.

The second time in as many years, after repeated failures, to be a voice of reason...be still my racing blue and gold heart!

Usually I am in voice of reason but this past game has me in the Old Blue category which I am squarely in by calendar age. I guess I was slightly more pessimistic than normal

This Saturday we can circle as a victory since we avoided a cardiac inducing defeat. I am rather pumped up for next Saturday which once again presents a big opportunity for the Bears and the coaching staff...

I know. I am oddly optimistic for the Miami game. Anxious to show our potential, but secretly hoping for the win, not another moral victory.
