Man, those box-whisker plots increase my depression. The data say this was (Iikely) the best combination of pass and run offense in 13 years against OSU. Maybe a top-3 pass and run combination in Wilcox's tenure! And with that performance, we lose by double-digits at home.
As a former football coach, I am optimistic for next year. We'll be in a much weaker conference and most of our skilled players are lower classmen. Our O line is also filled with lower classmen. If Mendoza stays out of the portal, and I think he will, our QB play will be so much better. Somehow have to shore up our secondary to complete my optimism. That can be done with a new defensive philosophy. Now it's just too generic.
Are we not allowed to hire a special teams coordinator mid-season?
If we could have decent coverage on kickoffs, we still could have eeked out a win here. Made it too easy on the their offense with a short field.
I am also really bummed Ott keeps getting hurt. I was genuinely looking to see him get some big time recognition this year. His numbers would be off the charts if he had played every game.
I gotta say the fact we are likely to spend the next month losing Dykes style instead of losing the usual Wilcox style doesn’t exactly fill me with optimism about the future of the program.
From two weeks as a Negabear to THE voice of reason. I'm not sure if I'm now settling in with this team's fate or more of you are having your hopes dashed??
All the Wilcox fanboys / Dykes haters are really struggling to make a positive spin from this game after years of proclaiming Wilcox low scoring losses trumps Dykes high scoring losses
Wilcox isn’t even succeeding in the few areas you could count on him to be good at: the grad rates are starting to suffer because of the transfer portal, the defense is getting outcoached, the team lacks mental toughness, and the passel of 3*’s he’s recruited are not really developing.
The program is a mess. This feels eerily like the beginning of the end for Mark Fox…
Feels more like the end of the Tedford era when he started feeling it and overthinking it, such as his handling of the QB situation this year. Fox was dead on arrival. There wasn’t a single moment from the announcement of his hire that I ever expected we’d ever be relevant under him.
I agree with you on the DOA...you know how I felt about that hire from the get-go.
But he did surprise that first year with the 14-18 and 8th place finish. Then came COVID, and much like Wilcox, things fell apart and he didn't have the coaching or recruiting chops to get it back.

Didn't make voice of reason...oh well there's next week
This is what new money (i.e. football success) and fame by association looks like.
"Oregon State meathead got drunk and tried to start a fight in front of us..."
Hey, you're cellar dwellers for the greater share of your history. Show some humility, since, next year, you're G5, most likely.
"[W]hile Bowlesman80 misses the number-two spot for the first time this season."
Welp, ST, Defense, and coaching forced me to a point of reckoning. But I'll be pumping, again, some day...
No quitters, the Bears.
