Report: Randy Bennett to Cal is not happening, looking to sign new deal at Saint Mary’s
Not a shock, but some clarity as the coaching search progresses
As Cal continues to move forward with their head coaching search, more and more dominoes are falling. First, it was Amir Abdur-Rahim who was reportedly considered but is no longer seen as a serious candidate. Now it’s Randy Bennett who holds that same title, as Jeff Goodman of Stadium is reporting that he will re up with St.Mary’s.
Randy Bennett and Cal is not going to happen. Look for Bennett to sign a new deal with Saint Mary’s, per source.
This should not come as a shock, as Bennett in the past has been a name that’s been flown around in several Cal coaching searches, with no agreement of course. Instead, Bennett will look back towards his tenure on his side of the Caldecott Tunnel in Moraga with the Gaels, where he poses a 507-208 coaching record since he was named head coach 2001.

I get it. Traffic can be rough going through the Caldecott. It's dark and scary. Berkeley isn't on the same BART line.
