Very sad, the conference is devolving into a second tier one - expect early December bowl games and lots of Thursday night games at Memorial Stadium - Adding these two schools as part of a conference strengthening is one thing, adding them as infill fodder is quite another - Sonny Dikes dumped Cal and did the same to SMU, San Diego State University has the same cachet as Angelo State University - Cal will become a "B" (maybe even a "C") opponent during scheduling discussions - Maybe Cal should pursue switching to an all gold turf field as a gimmick like Boise State's blue one - The deterioration of San Francisco into "Nuevo Detroit" is a huge blow to the region's prestige and drawing power and will probably impact Cal's consideration for future Big 10 membership. Opponents' fans often combined a trip to a game at Memorial Stadium with sightseeing in SF, typically staying at SF hotels and dining at famed SF restaurants. Sadly, those days are probably over.

My oh my. I don't know that I've read a more negative and dark portrayal of things in a very long time. I don't detect sarcasm or tongue in cheek, so if you are sincere, I'm sorry for you. I myself am an ever older Blue who holds no such negativity. San Diego State is a major university with better athletics than many in the Pac and would be a great addition for many reasons. SMU is more marginal but other than the prior religious affiliation, is as robust as some smaller Pac schools. I don't relish these changes, but there is no need to dumpster fire the whole thing. And San Francisco will always shine and every city goes through ups and downs. The continent isn't making any new Golden Gates!

We also in the Bay Area are heading into an AI bubble over the next few years. Expect SF and the Valley to bounce back.

Except it is a dumpster fire to the rest of the country perception-wise. You checked recruiting rankings and/or crime statistics in the Bay Area lately?

Sonny didn't dump Cal, he was fired.

Not before locking us into a dogschitt visit to f-ing Denton, TX for a 1:00 pm kick in the scalding Lone Star sun for the Mean Green’s home opener…this figures to be a dogfight, and Cal being favored by 10 is a head scratcher given the turnover. This is an incredibly challenging matchup for Wilcox, all because of Dykes. Thanks Sonny, you Texas gump.

Great. I hope for news soon. I'm doing my best to see the changes as just changes and to not associate to much to them. I was delighted when the Pac12 Network started, only to find major flaws. I've lived long enough to take changes in stride and see how they play out.

Will there ever be a deal for the Pac-12 Network to be on DirecTV? Seriously, enough already.

And then 1/2 of them will end up in the B10 and the other 1/2 in the B12. So it's not really a loss.

I think they will succeed. Why? Because the consequences would be gruesome if they fail!
