Great article Leland. I for one see no hope of football this fall, for the utter lack of national leadership from Trump around testing. To think of a fall without football is a darkness I never thought I would experience. It's not dust bowl or depression bad for my family, but for my happiness, missing football is a serious downer. And my heart breaks for the young men.
I don't know if anyone is saying this, but shouldn't the NCAA grant every player an extra year of eligibility?
I don't think we'll be seeing college athletics this fall in California. Other parts of the country may be more open to starting their programs back up but that'll be a logistical nightmare given the varying shelter-in-place measures from state to state.
Thankfully the SEC should take this seriously after seeing what's happening in Louisiana right now. I can't imagine even the most diehard LSU fans wanting to see a season if they've seen what's happened to NOLA.
I doubt that we will get any NCAA sponsored sports, but I would not be shocked if certain college teams in certain states, that may be lucky with regards to the virus outbreak, ends up playing televised games this fall in empty stadiums.
But people who generally enjoy the luxury boxes are not mostly there for the game, but for socializing with other people (which they won't get to) and free food/booze (so you have to have a lot more people to serve them). It's not clear to me that it would be worth the trouble to have that.
Pretty sure there will be no football this season. Bringing it back in the Spring seems unfeasible since it's basketball season. If the deciding factor for going forward is whether or not some degree of in-class instruction is going on, with social distancing, then I don't see how football can be played unless the social distancing requirement is relaxed.
You could but I just don't think it's likely...it would be hard to cover all of the desirable match-ups in both sports simultaneously for broadcast outlets.
Yeah, I like the idea of spring football. I don’t see why you couldn’t have concurrent football/basketball seasons. You would just want to schedule so that you don’t have both a football and basketball home game on the same day, which shouldn’t be too difficult to schedule around.
I'm right there with you. Besides, pushing the door open on this thing too early will be catastrophic. Let's watch the fun with the states that are all like, "eh, we haven't even hit the peak, let's open it back up!" That'll give us some idea...

You give LSU fans, especially rural LSU fans far too much credit.
That's a pretty broad and condescending statement.

One could achieve sufficient distancing within luxury boxes and say 5 to 10 people per section. And charge a huge fortune per ticket.
