This was my first Cal game, freshman year with my mom visiting for the weekend. What an absolute blast of a game and the moment I too fell in love with Cal football.

IIRC, I was running the Cal DC club football running that year, and our Cal bar then was the only place to watch that game in DC thanks to the terrible Pac-12 Networks distribution then (it has only slightly improved). Using the online account of my sister (who lives in LA), I was able to stream the game, which unofficially turned into a joint watch with the UCLA club.

While the UCLA people were mostly nice (and many of them bought me drinks for providing the game), it was quite satisfying to watch many of them, who had recently just jumped back on the UCLA football bandwagon, lose hope again by the end of this game.

This was one of the most fun games I've attended in person.

Excited for this series to do the Oregon State game that year. Which brave soul will accept the challenge?

We were 1-4 and yet Memorial looked pretty packed from the broadcast. Pretty sure this was the first year back after the renovation. Of course, that was when we were just on the cusp of the perilous year over year decline to 2017's attendance levels.

So true, so glad for you becoming a convert. My similar stories go back before Tedford, but they are the same. A sunny afternoon in Berkeley capped off by a winning game and stroll back through the campus...that's a gold star day in my book. Poignant now to consider, seems so distant, but will return. Thank you!
