Quote from the great Al Davis "Just Win Baby"

I’m still looking for a little in-season respect for Cal on the ACC Network….

Seems they are SUPER familiar w Jaron now so maybe we’ll stop being considered an upstart afterthought on the ACC Huddle this season…. Maybe. If they ditched Mark Richt as an analyst that’s a good first step.

Cal is a program that has to have an alumni as the football HC. I backed Lupoi heavily in the hiring process because he’s walked the walk. We’ve all experienced the standard of excellence demanded of you at this university and he’s expecting nothing less from his players. I love it and can’t wait for September 5th!

The three most successful coaches in Cal's history attended Fresno State (Tedford), Syracuse (Waldorf), and Penn State (Smith).

While I like an Old Blue at the helm, I think it more important that such a person who is qualified run the entire Athletic Department rather than coach.

Asked how he’s honoring what former coach Justin Wilcox built while establishing his own identity

It's been a long time since I heard that name. I wonder what he's doing now. There has been absolutely no news. He's probably living in a cave.

Seems like Wilcox is taking the year off.

Wouldn’t be surprised if his severance practically requires it. I can’t remember about his specific deal, but often buyouts are offset by new coaching income.

I found the text of his initial contract which has mitigation and offset language. I'm sure his extension does too. There's no actual deadline to finding a job, though he has to inform the university of his efforts.

I think it's common enough for fired coaches to not find work the next year that the university won't press the issue. But they'll be really mad if he isn't working after this season.

the program’s NFL pedigree, name-checking Marshawn Lynch, DeSean Jackson, Jared Goff, Aaron Rodgers, Cameron Jordan and Keenan Allen, and noted Cal is “one of three teams in college football that’s had 10-plus DBs selected in the NFL Draft since 2020.” He said the combination of that football tradition with the school’s academic reputation and location in the Bay Area, “the sixth highest media market in all of the U.S.,”

It sure sounds great but with all those appeal, we couldn't get ourself into anywhere other than ACC. It's sad.

I really do like this guy. So, it is like about seven weeks before the UCLA game, right? The gradient of approach is ahead of schedule for me. There is going to be some exciting football this year! Go Bears!

that game is going to be a huge Week 1 test. it seems like both programs are in similar situations with similar talent levels.. but, of course, we have the edge at QB.

Yeah, we’ll see. Iamaleava is the better runner. If Cal can avoid a Kyron Drones scenario and contain Jet Thomas, I like the Golden Bears’ chances.
