As a former resident of the 518, I watched some Siena games this year...this kid would be a nice piece on a better Cal team, or one with a more dynamic offense...but wonder if he'd really impact the standings tho with Fox.
Wonder why Fox is seemingly content with his bigs? He's really gonna ride with Lars, Thorpe and a raw FR that he'll give 7-9 mpg to? Yikes.
Fox needs to reel in one or two good players who can contribute. Otherwise I don't see, sans Kelly, how we can match even last season's record. But so far the fish aren't biting.
Not sure how anyone can realistically expect the ‘22-‘23 team to match last years record without the top 3 scorers, our best big and the top bench player. It would take major leaps from multiple players, which is quite unrealistic given Fox’s track record and offensive scheme. Landing yet another average, inefficient volume-scoring CG from a mediocre mid-major program is not gonna move the needle for this team.
A marquee guy could absolutely make a difference, but Cal’s not even in the discussion for such a player. The program under Fox continues to be stagnant and irrelevant…hopefully this is the final year for this coaching staff.
Knowlton's just looking for an excuse to hand Fox an extension. You almost have to root for us to fail or else suffer in obscurity for anther 3-4 years. Fortunately, I don't expect we'll have to.
I fear you're absolutely correct, P, and that's such a tough spot to be in as a fan...but given the ease with which Knowlton handed out excuses for Fox, the slightest glimmer of improvement, no matter how marginal or inconsequential, seems ripe for some sort of a reward.
I agree that without some significant wins on recruiting and transfers, Cal is headed to another year of bottom of the Pac performance, which should result in Fox being released. It's not enough to be a great guy, even a great on the court coach. You must be able to bring in solid Pac12 talent.
G Colby Rogers from Siena visited last week.

Certainly supports the gestalt that the WBB team is building buzz and upward momentum while the MBB is trying to tread quicksand.
At this point I'm half waiting for one of our MBB targets to pass us up to play for Athletes In Action instead.
Good one!
One more WBB commitment which happened late on Saturday. Cal added Utah WBB transfer, Kemery Martin, a 6' guard.
