The "offer" to allow an additional 1000 students is asinine and insulting. What authority do they even think they have to make an offer? Ridiculous NIMBYs gonna NIMBY, I suppose.

Friendly reminder that the city developed around the University, not the other way around.

You mean they didn't all buy their houses before 1868?

At this point I've just had it with the City of Berkeley and its NIMBY inhabitants.

The NIMBY leader living half the year in New Zealand is entirely too on-brand. '70s environmentalism is becoming the 2020s' environmental catastrophe.

What I find most surprising is that they did this despite knowing the recent financial challenges the University faces. I do think that the idea of endlessly augmenting enrollment is not the best long term strategy to address finances (real systemic changes are required that probably involve limiting the size of the UC to control per Capita costs) but it sort of a necessary evil right now.

Wow. What if Cal had to turn away recruits because of these idiots? I think after COVID and C of Berkeley B.S. Wilcox would throw in the towel.

NIMBY bullshit from the same people who delayed the stadium renovation. They live in a university town for F sake; yet they complain about university activity. It's no different than someone buying a house near SFO and then complaining about airplane noise. They're using CEQA in a way never intended, and unfortunately the California Supremes are allowing them to get away with it. Time for more than just words from Newsom. He needs to be a leader, and he needs to get a bill through the legislature to amend CEQA and stop this nonsense.
