If you, today, tell someone in Paris or Riyadh or Hong Kong or Capetown or Buenos Aires that you went to Berkeley, they would understand what you mean.

If you told them you went to Cal, they would have no idea what that is.

That is a big deal!!!!

This has nothing to do with football recruiting.

How many universities have international name recognition to the level of “Berkeley”? Maybe a dozen or so? That is so valuable

And clearly most folks in California and the Bay Area have no clue either! I grew up in the Bay and didn't know until I attended Cal that there was only 1 Cal.

You make an odd inference here. Since childhood, unlike you, I’ve always known there is only one CAL, and it’s in Berkeley. Am I to then conclude that clearly most Californians and folks in the Bay Area DO have a clue?
