UC Davis to hire Cal tight end coach Tim Plough as their next head coach
Plough will return home to the Aggies as the Bears need two new offensive coaches.
Cal will need to fill a second offensive coaching vacancy. Tim Plough is returning back to his roots up the I-80.
UC Davis has reportedly hired Cal tight end coach Tim Plough as their next head coach after the retirement of Dan Hawkins. Plough is a former Aggie QB, assistant, and offensive coordinator, so returning back to his stomping grounds as the leading man made a lot of sense for him. Adam Rittenberg was first to report.
Plough was instrumental in the development of Jack Endries as one of the best pass catching tight ends in the conference, and helping establish Asher Alberding as one of the best blocking tight ends in the Pac-12. He was a huge part of the Cal offensive revitalization and he will be missed.
The Bears now have two offensive coaching vacancies among the three remaining, with Jake Spavital accepting the offensive coordinator position in Baylor. Offensive line coach/run game coordinator Mike Bloesch remains from last year’s offensive coaching makeover, and is speculated to be in the running for the Cal offensive coordinator position. But it’s safe to say Cal will need to figure out their new offensive staff in a hurry with the transfer portal open date looming.
Plough will be making a return to Berkeley soon enough. Cal will host UC Davis this upcoming season.
Really fired up for Coach Plough. This is a dream job for him and a great stepping stone if he is successful.
Keep Ott. Keep Cade. Keep Bloesch. Keep Fernando.
Everything else is fixable.
