The line is up to 6.5, I guess Vegas is betting against Cal.

Have any QBs had good rushing success against UCLA? Wondering if Chase can run away from their rush?

Jayden Daniels (ASU) had 6 rushes for 45 yards, Anthony Brown (Oregon) has 6 rushes for 85 yards, Cam Rising (Utah) had 6 rushes for 63 yards. Even Tanner McKee (Stanford), not a running QB, had 8 rushes for 42 yards.

Conversely, Brendon Lewis (Colorado) had 8 rushes for 0 yards, and Jordan McCloud (Arizona) had 8 rushes for 21 yards.

So clearly it seems the key here is to run 6 times versus UCLA. In seriousness, although there are probably some sack yardages factored into the above stats, it seems that sometimes UCLA gets too much pressure and that overaggressiveness can be turned against them, e.g. leaving the middle of the field open if the QB can get a lane, etc.

I'd like to see CG under center 90% of the time in this game. It will allow him to keep his eyes downfield at the snap versus being in shot gun and tracking the ball from center on the snap (those split seconds make a difference). Also, being under center will give fucla some pause as Cal can now run a variety of runs/passes from that formation, which may (or may not) slow down fucla's aggression. OL can't make any mistakes, especially holding penalties. The last time Cal faced a front like this (Wazzu) the OL had some issues. Yes it is a cliché but for this game a strong offense will be our best defense and we need the O to continue its dominance.

I heard fucla's defense has 11 seniors, damn that's a lot.

Most of their starters are seniors, but also a fairly large chunk of them are grad transfers. Wonder what that says about UCLA's development of their players?

Starters that transferred to UCLA: DT Datona Jackson, OLB Mitchell Agude, ILB Caleb Johnson, ILB Jodan Genmark Heath, CB Obi Eboh, CB Cameron Johnson, NB Qwuantrezz Knight

That's 7 of their 11 starters on defense. Guess if you want to develop as a player, you might want to look elsewhere.

Genmark Heath, at one point, was committed to Cal and flipped to Notre Dame. Great kid and interesting background. I suspect fucla's D is going to suck next year unless the 2nd string is loaded with 5*, that side of the ball will be decimated by graduation.

I do wanna give a shout out to Rohme. We re-watched the Big Game and Rohme played well and is improving tremendously. Sure, he had a big penalty against him but I laffed my ass off when he did it and recall that, not long ago, this was not a penalty in football.

Funny how U say they are so bad but then talk about their great players. I can only deduce that bad coaching is to blame!!!! Several entities in my life that cannot lose too much: Notre Dame, Steve Sarkesian, [I’ll leave politics out of this], the Dallas Cowboys, tOSU, and Chip Kelly. I’m sure there are others (that rhyme with 2SC…..), but I find Kelly one of the most annoying hosers around…..

Well, I mean, sure UCLA has a top 25 recruiting class every year (until Chip Kelly put his own spin on recruiting). But just because you have a top 25 recruiting class in the nation, should you really be expected to win more than 3 or 4 games in a year?

(crickets)

I mean, why should we hold UCLA to the same standards as, say, Oregon State? I mean, everyone knows that Corvallis basically just sells itself and recruits are dying to play ther...

Err, well...

How's ULCA supposed to consistently squeak by with 7-5 seasons without a bevy of 5-star players on their roster? By my estimates, Chip Kelly is one of the top 5 FBS college football head coaches in the Los Angeles area, doing so much with so little.

I seems like they have plenty of weapons on defense. Chase's mobility certainly will help Cal gain the upper hand.

Hope the ositos bury their misery in Otito's cheesecake after losing this weekend.
