A set of previews this long and in depth for an FCS school just becomes sicko stuff at this point. I’m not even saying that disrespectfully, the fact is that there just isn’t that much written about FCS school in the first place compared to P4 competition. Our site probably has the most in depth breakdown on the internet right now.
Man oh man, Mr. Helling, I admire your work ethic, your transparence, your sly humor and your willingness to honor our upcoming opponent with the same rigor you would one from a major conference. I imagine every one of Seahawks will read this with interest and pride. I hope it’s a good, clean game where Cal can work out the kinks and give the home crowd (please show up, people) a respectable W.
Thank you Christopher. I learned quite a bit about the football history and coaching relationships at Wagner College, a school I knew nothing about previously, except maybe the black bear proximity thing I learned yesterday. I look forward to watching Cal improve all elements of the offense and practice aggressive defense during the game this Saturday. Go Bears!
I assume a lot of these teams just have less aggressive offensive and defensive strategies in buy games to avoid injuries in a probable loss? Unless you're an elite team like NDSU, App State, JMU,j etc., that knows they have a chance.
JMU just put a lot of pressure on us because if we can't even hit 50 we're going to look bad.
Yeah, watching the Wagner vs FBS games just felt like watching a team try not to lose by too much. Completely different defense than what I saw in their FCS conference games.
And I wouldn't worry about JMU. Cal's very likely not going to score 80+ points, and you can't get that high without defensive scores, special teams scores, etc. A regular offense would just run the ball and burn clock when the game was way out of hand (likely by the second half). JMU for whatever reason was making a point by trying to win by that much. It was terrible sportsmanship.
Edit: I forgot to mention, Wagner was playing backups the entire 2nd half of the game. They definitely are looking to avoid injuries, and perhaps see what some of their youngsters can do.
We all know Lupoi is treating Wagner’s 87-3 blowout loss to James Madison as completely irrelevant to the team's game prep. Nonetheless, it must be difficult to keep that focus.
Perhaps even more than offense, since the rules all favor offense, a deficit of talent on defense exposes the disparities between teams greater than a deficit on offense. IMO. If you can't stop the rush, create separation, create holes, or other basic football functions, your fate is doomed. Cal is plenty talented on defense, so this should show up clearly in the first half.

is Von Stickhands getting reps as a PR as well? We'll need to be on alert for his game breaking ability.

Oh dear Ovoid God of Football, please, please don't let this be a trap game. Pleeeeeeeeaaase.

Our rbs better rip some home runs
I hope this turns out to be like a scrimmage against our 3rds and 4ths.
