Nevada was the one loss that I can be ok with. They are a scruffy team and I have no reason to dislike them. A win over TCU is more important because it can bring us some respect. A loss to Sac State would be crushing.
And priority #1 is always the Big Game. Win that and Wilcox is safe forever. Then win the conference and beat the LA schools.
I do not mind a Rose Bowl season that includes a loss to Nevada.
Look, I understand that Cal lost. But, is Nevada that bad a team to lose to? (I know they are not Ohio St). In my mind, it was more about how Cal lost. Bad effort. Bad schemes. Bad adjustments. All, of which equals bad coaching.
A loss to Nevada is one data point. If Cal goes 4-8 this season all of us will be monumentally pissed, but if they lose in “competitive fashion” and not because they frittered the game away I can live with it and not call for Wilcox to be fired. If the performance in the next 5-6 games looks like the last 3 quarters of the Nevada game, well, everyone needs to go.
Wilcox could go 0-12 this year and his job will still be secure if there's no off-the-field drama. It takes a lot to get fired at Cal nowadays. While I'm sure the Old Blues in the seatbacks are getting a little more antsy, I also think Wilcox will continue to get the benefit of the doubt because academics are in a seemingly good place and the program is drama free so far. If we do go 3-9 and follow it up with a losing season again next year, then I think there will be enough momentum to make a change. But I think he'll get more rope than Sonny did.
Traditionally, you'd be correct of course. But our program is essentially bankrupt. And we're coming out of a pandemic, which has caved finances even further. It's a little unclear still what audiences appetite will be for large gatherings going further. And there will be a threat for years of some new variant. Add to that the fact that we'll likely be buying out our MBB coach and hiring a new one in six months. These are unprecedented times. Maybe 0-12 is an overreach, but I still think it would take an extraordinary set of circumstances beyond wins and losses to precipitate his getting moved after this year.
We probably shouldn't overlook Sac State at this point. I think a loss to TCU makes the Sac State game the most critical. Not just because it's the next game but a guy named Troy could be auditioning for his next HC job. Cal will be all out of sorts should they enter that game 0 - 2.
Yeah, it is naive for us to overlook Sac State at this point. I am predicting a double digit loss on Saturday. I see the score something like 38-13 TCU, which would make a win against Sac State critical and not just any win but we need to look dominate against Sac State.
I was thinking of you and this bandwagon when GEAT recommended Taylor. I think it makes more sense for Taylor to come to Cal now as our head coach than it did at the time as our OC.
It is now the Tuesday after the horrendous season-opener, and hope springs eternal. A small ray of sunshine is beginning to pump its way into my naive little bear heart... Pac 12 North playing the ultimate hustle and sweeping the likes of tOSU, UM, and TCU this weekend? Why not, make me a believer.
...also, I was planning on driving to Fort Worth for the game, and I need there to be some hope that I'm not sriving 6hours this weekend just to be on the wrong end of a blowout. It's Cheez Int Bowl revenge season!
Is there such a thing as a Tri-fecta in football bets? If so, I am guessing there is a lot of money that can be made by going all in on Oregon, Cal and Washington this weekend. A winning ticket means you are taking Net Jets back to your home.
You can do a 3 team parlay. I saw on CFB Reddit that someone did a 14 games parlay and he took the under in all those games. He placed $10 and won $80,000 after the Ole Miss game can in under.
Be sure to wear a mask. Appalling to see these stadiums packed and hardly anyone wearing a mask. Delta & Mu had a good feed this past weekend. Also, I heard Georgia may have a spike within its facilities and may have to postpone/cancel/forfeit this weeks game. Be safe.

I strongly disagree with this. A coach in year 1 or 2 of a rebuild can go 1-11 or 0-12. A coach in year 5 cannot go 0-12 and retain his job.

I think I'll be buying some put options.

Go Eat A Taco.
I know, I’m old enough to remember you recommending him and ridiculing you about it.

My favorite saying about betting and gambling is that the worst thing that can happen to a gambler is to win. This tends to disprove that notion.
That's amazing. Tons of value to be had early in the season! But I don't have a bookie...

Wondering if I can get my hands on a full Oski mask in time for the game now...
There is a near zero% chance UGA is postponing/canceling/forfeiting their home opener...
I just heard that UW and WSU are requiring proof of vaccination going forward or a negative Covid test for fans. I wonder if Cal will follow suit.
I’m surprised it hasn’t already happened via Cal or the City of Berkeley. Masks at the games too, people are pretty packed together at times.
