Garbers- HOLD, he needs to use his legs more. He is more effective when he does.

Safeties-Buy, those guys are the leaders of the team of tackles and been saving those corners

LB-SELL, don’t care about youth. They did not step into the hole to slow down the runner.

Coaching-HOLD, 100% better from first game, OC-I don’t understand his logic, Wilcox-needs to overturn certain calls at the right time, DB coach - sell sell sell, no junkyard dog in them like the last 3 years, OL-BUY, those guys playing their azzes off, WR-HOLD, not enough data, RB-BUY, use them more!!!!!!!!

Garbers is still a DROP for me. Granted, he played well against TCU, but I would prefer to see a QB with more poise under pressure and a better arm. He made the decision more challenging, but I've watched him for too many years now and I'm ready to move on at this point.

Coaching is a HOLD. I liked the more aggressive decision-making this week. Even if it cost us the game, I encouraged Wilcox to continue going for two early in the game, when there was less pressure. Yes, we ended up chasing those points, but the call was still the right one considering our kicking game is still not a lock until Ragle is replaced.

OLine played much better and the results showed instantly.

Receiving corps is still a question mark going into league play. We lack size and speed still (Polk), and I miss the hands of a Kenny Lawler type.

In order for two pt conversion to work, we really need a threat in the redzone offense. Like you said Lawler, or McMorris type of player

I thought he had a good game overall. His rating was 2nd in the league last week after McKee, plus he used his legs to good effect. The 20 yard scramble in the last drive was a thing of beauty. If Musgrave will let him escape the pocket the result is usually positive. The play actually reminded me a lot of the last minute run he had vs. Stanford in 2019.

I'm sure he has been coached to look for the run when and if the defense is playing man coverage (defenders with their back to the QB) & when the defense is in zone, trust your WRs to find soft spots to sit. I believe Udub is still playing man so Cal will likely exploit that with some QB runs.

Hunter had a nice game with a contested down field grab. That was pretty special. Also would like to see some of the other young guys in the rotation.

I see a theme here on WFC that our defense is not as good due to the departure of TDR. I think it is more likely that ~ currently ~ we don't have two future League playas at ILB or 3 future League playas at DB. These playas that are now in the League were playin for TDR and yes coached up by him. But currently Sirmon does not have 5 League players at ILB / DB. He may have them at some point ~ perhaps this year or subsequent years ~ but for now we need to allow time for young players to get experience and develop. Our ILB are young ~ give them a chance. I do feel that Iosefa appears to be a bit lost, he has all the physical tools but seems to miss assignments and isn't tackling all that well. A young Oladejo played some snaps and did reasonably well ~ heck, he's a true freshman playing against TCU. So talent is being developed. Hey even Gamble improved his play.

In short, I don't feel Sirmon is all that bad and is working with a young defense at all 3 levels. He may not be as an aggressive play caller as TDR, but that may be a function of youth and not opening up the play book too early.

Granted TDR was good and he had considerable talent to work with and mold.

I do feel that the defense will be solid this year despite several key season ending injuries at DL, OLB & S. And that doesn't include Deng, what's his status?

Yeah, one thing I was thinking while watching the TCU game is that we really miss Evan Weaver -- he filled a lot of gaps in our imperfect defense with pure drive.

I'm still a hold on Garbers. I think he played slightly above his average in this game, but what hurt us was his forcing the ball into tightly covered deep side routes on 3rd down when there were shorter, wide open options for the 1st down & keeping the drives alive. I think he was a victim of his early success in the game, and having won most of the 50-50 balls in the first 2 drives, was overconfident in making those low percentage throws later in the game when completing any pass for a 3rd down was critical and more important than gaining 25 on a long shot.
