Here's a thought for the future and not trying to rain on current watch parties, here.

But what about watch parties in Sproul Plaza?

Then, if they grow in popularity, watch parties for away games in CMS!

Think about the enthusiasm of the students are dispersed during away games. Video feeds of the student support could be streamed to the team in real time!

Wounded, talented animal backed in a corner.

Bears play 12 games with their hair on fire and take on challenges?

Stay tuned...

Bears need to project all the moral support they can to our team and help them keep the fire going!

By the way, Stanfurd Steve picks FSU, today. What else from a Furd, but let's dig in an support the Bears and make the a-hole wrong!

GO!

It is always a matter of concern to play a physically talented team that is desperate for a win at their home. Cal has yet to play a complete game in all phases. Let's hope that performance is tomorrow, win or lose.

Just looked at SB Nation, Florida State vs Cal, FSU SB Staff Predictions, they all think they are going to lose. What the heck, hey, somebody has to win the game right? It should be Cal! We are playing better football. Go Bears!

FSU 38 - Cal 13

Once it happens, I will publicly dismiss it as one that we were going to lose anyways and pretend that it doesn't bother me. And if I actually feel upset, I will bottle up that feeling and toss it into the void as tribute to my Dark Lord Oski, reminding myself that this is what the cold, lifeless touch of countless generations of Cal defeat feels like. It's all so familiar. Year after year, I watch the dead leaves drop and experience a rite that has followed this script so many times before. And yet this year in the ACC is different. The season can blossom again into an above-expectations 8-4 season. Spring is just around the corner, proverbially in the second half of the season. If FSU strikes us down, I will not be harmed and will emerge optimistic.

.

And if, by providence, Cal does defeat Florida State. I will explode in a woke rainbow of Twitter Burner glory with double-middle fingers, screaming "I TOLD YOU MFers THIS WHOLE TIME WE WOULD WIN".

.

You cannot hurt me, FSU. I have embraced the Cal Burner Life. I am Immortal.

I hate to say it but I don’t have a great feeling about this one. Cal-17, FSU 24. More of a concern about the lack of any prior experience playing into the eerie nighttime of the humid Southeast. Like I did when the Trojan marching band played its same garbage over and over, I will mute my TV to silence the noise of the ‘Noles’ war chant.

But, how do we counter the chant with our own moral support projected to Tallahassee so out team does not stand alone?

I say lean into the chant and make it ours!

I am with Nick on this one. Drinking the Cal Bears Football Kool aide to chase down the Knob Creek Rye I will need staring at 4:00 PM tomorrow. Cal can do this. Go Bears.

(sigh) I live on the Big Island. Costco here doesn't get the rye, but currently has some of the bourbon (no telling what will ever be on the shelves but most of the higher end stuff gets left in Oahu before the shipments get forwarded here). Fortunately, when I was on the mainland last fall the rye was on sale so I grabbed some and brought it back in my bag. I do have a little bit of some KC single barrel rye I've been saving from about 2 years ago. When CAL wins this one it'll be time to break out the antica and the single barrel and sazerac up the joint. I don't day drink any more but the game starts at 1:00 p.m. here so it should finish just in time!

As in the Auburn game, Cal will make some mistakes, have a couple hiccups, and will play a full 60 minutes, especially on defense. Cal wins.

I doubt Cal will be flat for this game. They know it's a game with big implications. We will have some players back off injury which should help and I feel Coe, our kicker, will come through this week.

For me it is too close to call. FSU has to bounce back eventually and let's just hope it is not against the Bears. If it comes down to a duel between field goal kickers then the Seminoles have an advantage based upon the kickers' respective body of work so far this season.

Expand full comment
diasfordays's avatar

do they though? i'm a serial optimist but the team that lost to Memphis looked completely uninterested in working together to win a game. why would they bounce back

Expand full comment
CamHand's avatar

'Why?'

Unfortunately because it's kind of a pattern with Norvell. His teams have a tendency to have losing streaks, esp. early season, and then go on long winning streaks. I personally attribute it to poor coaching eventually being overcome by high talent levels. Sooner or later high star players will usually figure some things out in spite of the coaches.

Don't get me wrong, though... this FSU looks particularly disfunctional and I don't predict them climbing out of the gutter any time soon. It's just there is actually an answer to the question so I gave it... As noted below, even dead rattlers...

I appreciate the answer. I just want to believe that for once opposing teams can figure it out AFTER they play us lol. I choose to belieeeeeve.

Stanford Steve also just predicted an FSU victory on College Gameday this morning. He thinks Vegas is onto something with its betting liine favoring the Seminoles. Then. Rece Davis chimed in that, yeah, the victory over Aww-Burn wouldn’t have happened without the four INT’s. The sentiment appears to remain that the Bears are not really a good team. Ouch. But this is what we want. Cal performs well as the underdog..
