Madsen was my biggest basketball enemy when I was at Cal. Then his arm-flailing dance made him a Laker fan icon, a seemingly average guy living our greatest dream. But the truth, of course, is that he has an intelligent basketball mind and is a kind-hearted, even-keeled, hard-working person who is beloved wherever he goes.
I did not think it possible to feel this much hope after last year but it's tangible and justifiable. I hope he creates something special at Cal and stays to maintain it. I won't dwell on that hypothetical day after years of success when the NBA comes calling. Today is about the untapped potential of dreams, not lamenting the cost of achieving them.
The level of excitement madsen has generated within the program in this short amount of time he’s had the reins is quite impressive. This guy breathes passion, energy, enthusiasm, tenacity etc. how could you not want to hop on board the mad dog train?!
This is something Cal has lacked in their basketball program since Martin. Madsen has no doubt provided a shot in the arm to get the fan base reenergized again. Haas pavilion will be rocking next year and season ticket holders who bailed out the last several years will be back.
CAL better pay this man and the administration better give him unwavering financial support if they want him to stay long-term. He will no doubt get other programs calling him offering way more or even the nba.
As an CAL Alumnus and Bear Backer for the Football team, this may be the year that I support the Bears Basketball team, this energy I am reading about is contagious!
