Cal Football: Golden Bears Sign Three More Commits on National Signing Day 2022
The Bears will add at least 17 players to their roster this fall.
Cal landed three more commitments on National Signing Day, bringing their 2022 recruiting class up to 17 members (14 freshmen and junior college transfers, three portal transfers).
There was some concern about Jackson Brown potentially looking elsewhere for school—he had discussed options like Kentucky and Cincinnati in recent weeks.
But at the end the San Ramon Valley offensive lineman was firm on the Bears, and he made the decision to stay local.
Brown firms up a very solid offensive line class for the Bears, with Trent Ramsey, Nick Morrow and Sioape Vatikani all committed. Cal’s depth at this position is in much better shape.
As discussed yesterday, Cal found their 2022 quarterback in former Yale commit Fernando Mendoza. Mendoza joins a crowded QB room from Miami and becomes Cal’s first ever Cuban-American quarterback commit.
Mater Dei cornerback Cameron Sidney also faxed in his letter of intent. Sidney took his time with his recruitment and is one of the hidden gems of this class.
More on Sidney’s decision with this interview with Rivals ($).
Sidney had his mind mostly focused on his current team and not his future one for most of the fall, so he didn’t feel he had done all his due diligence to make a final decision about Cal. So, he held off on signing.
There were no ill feelings toward the Bears, and he continued to remain in contact with the staff. He eventually had an in-home visit with the coaches and is ready to move forward with the process.
Sidney joins Jeremiah Earby to keep the Takers pipeline flowing strongly.
Here are Cal’s 11 commitments from Early Signing Day.
Here are the three transfers Cal landed in the portal this past month.
All-in-all, Cal’s 2022 class is looking mighty sturdy after a very shaky start.
