I missed part that forced this kid to commit in the first place. He clearly doesn't know what he wants to do, except that Cal is no longer good enough for him. All his equivocating just means that he's not willing to be honest about why he's decommited. Another immature egocentric HS football player.
So, speculation but, one does wonder whether the fact after RJ became the first commit, perhaps hoping to see other four stars join in, all that have followed are threes........
This is starting to feel like a lost recruiting class, largely due to coming off an extremely underachieving season and a staff that can’t recruit with a mediocre coaching record as they can’t sale the potential of the program.
Did you read what he said about the lack of certainty with respect to Conference play? He doesn't want to end up on a Division 3 team. I don't blame him. He's not gone, he's just keeping his options open.
I am sure conference realignment played a role in his decision, I just don’t think it was a significant one. UW, Oregon, Stanford and other schools don’t seem to be having the same recruiting and decommitting issues that we are experiencing.
They are all well secured going into the future. There is no chance UW/Oregon get left out, and Furd can actually afford to go independent if they choose to do so. Cal is unique in the group of 4 where we really have very little say in what happens to us, and that will scare recruits.
I disagree with Oregon, UW and Stanford in the sense it is all speculation and until they are actually invited, they are in just as much limbo as Cal. All schools have little say whether they get in. Oregon is so unsure, that they reportedly have Phil Knight cold calling the Big10 commissioner and other ADs.
Sure, Stanford can go independent but that opens up a whole can of speculation of what that would even look like and would be risky to sale to recruits.

Winning cures most problems.
Until there is more clarity we can expect more of this going forward. Need to plot a course sooner rather than later

As of now, he's gone. That what decommiting means.
Yeah it makes total sense, just a total bummer. The uncertainty could kill us
I agree its lost but I don't believe the staff is the issue.
If you're a top recruit, why would you commit to a school that could realistically be in a second tier conference by the time you see the field?
We're going to get absolutely destroyed on the recruiting trail until there is less uncertainty about our future.
I remember he was all-in early and was eager to recruit all his teammates. It's telling that none of them decided to join him.
I remember him saying that he was still going to take OVs to other places, indicating that he was probably a softer commit than we would have hoped.
afraid to compete
"we have two defensive coaches while most teams only have one."
We definitely have more than two defensive coaches.
Wack

I think UW's recruiting class is lower than ours. Oregon, well it's Oregon. Stanfurd has enough money they can go independent if they want.

Disagree. Our media value is the highest of the remaining PAC schools.

If the University doesn’t give two-schitts about it’s athletic programs, tough to see how recruits will.
The fact that the school will be contributing just $13.5M to intercollegiate athletics by 2025 is a devastating game changer.
