Josiah specifically called out, first and foremost, his faith in his post. Like a lot of resources at Cal, there is a wide variety of faith based student run & off-campus organizations, and In case he reads this thread, I thought it would be helpful for him to know that while he might have to seek out the faith based groups, they are there at Cal.
There's a seminary on North Side and just about every faith in the world has a place of worship in Berkeley. There is an abundance of churches. So glad this guy shows the courage of his faith.
For sure. Cal is where I really started really understanding what faith was ... I had just attended church with my folks my whole life but being independent and making those choices while at school was life changing. There are indeed a lot of resources on campus and he will see that getting more.flyers than he wants walking through Sproul the first week.
Welcome to Cal, Josiah! You'll find Cal to have a wide diversity of students, including Christians, excellent athletics, and can provide you with an educational foundation upon which you can use throughout your life.
When you get to Berkeley, reach out to some of the Christian organizations active on campus and in athletics. I know they will welcome you and help you build a home away from home. Am excited to have a young man of your caliber decide to throw in with the Bears!
I’ve often wondered about the spiritual aspects of recruiting; I assume the staff provide a rundown of the religious resources available in Berkeley, when recruits are interested.
The reference to Texas sure seems on point. Six of our 13 commits are from Texas (compared to only four from California and six total from the West Coast). Pretty awesome that he committed just a couple days after his visit, too. And that's quite a list of offers! Looking forward to seeing what he can do.
GO BEARS!
Welcome to Cal!
