2025 QB Robert McDaniel decommits from Cal
The California Golden Bears will have to find a new signal-caller for their recruiting class.
The California Golden Bears will likely have to find a new quarterback for the 2025 recruiting class, as Robert McDaniel has reopened his recruitment.
This is a tough loss. McDaniel was looking like he was breaking out after the Elite 11 camp in Las Vegas. Greg Biggins had the details.
The Cal commit had a strong day and was consistent throughout the workout. He plays with a nice pace and tempo and moves really well in and out of the pocket.Â
He had one of the quicker releases in the camp and was among the best throwing on the run and makes the off-platform throws look easy. He can change speeds, threw with anticipation and showed off a very promising upside.Â
Ah, oh so promising for a future Cal commit. Alas.
We can’t really speculate as to why McDaniel is decommitting, but it wouldn’t be a surprise if his performance in camps like these attracted the eyes. McDaniel hasn’t received huge offers as of yet, but it’s likely the interest has turned up and McDaniel thought it made more sense for him to reconsider his options.
Cal will likely have to pursue other options. The Bears have sent out over a dozen offers to quarterbacks in this class, but almost all of them have committed to other programs. It’s likely Mike Bloesch and Sterlin Gilbert are going to have to keep options open and look at some new talent to scout this summer.

Except in rare situations where you have unique kids, developing players at the QB position is likely going to be a thing of the past.
