Cal lands a 2025 QB commit in Robert McDaniel from Hughson
The California Golden Bears continue to make early noise in the 2025 class.
Cal has landed their first major quarterback prospect of the 2025 cycle. Robert McDaniel from Hughson, California (a city just outside of Modesto) has committed to the Golden Bears.
McDaniel also held offers from Virginia, Washington State, Indiana, Oregon State. He's ranked as the 62nd best quarterback and 76th best California prospect by 247Sports Composite. As a sophomore in Hughson, McDaniel completed 61 percent of his throws, racking up 23 touchdown passes against just seven interceptions. In his junior year, he maintained a steady 60% completion rate, throwing 33 touchdowns and just four picks. Here are his Hudl highlights.
More from the Turlock Journal on what drew McDaniel to Berkeley:
McDaniel, who hopes to study either sports medicine or sports management at Berkeley, said the relationships he’s developed with coach Justin Wilcox’s staff during the recruitment process was the main reason he chose Cal over the 16 other schools that made offers.
“There was just a lot of great communication and relationships that have been built over time,” said McDaniel. “And I’ve been able to sustain those relationships with the coaches. And during my first visit last year I was able to see what the locker room was like. Not what it looked like, but the actual atmosphere among the players.”
Cal is also looking to take potentially two quarterbacks in the 2025 class. They’ve honed in on Jackson Kollock as another top target. Kollock took a trip up to Berkeley recently and commented on how much he enjoyed it in his talk with Matt Moreno at Rivals ($). So there is mutual interest there!
Cal is definitely going to want to be more proactive on the high school recruiting front. While they have landed talented transfers like Jack Plummer and now Chandler Rogers, it’s important to remember most of Cal’s quarterbacks came too us directly from high school. It’ll be the best way for the program to maintain its stable path.
Welcome to Cal, Robert! Go Bears!
Welcome to the Cal family young man. Best and most important decision many of us have ever made.
Nice! Welcome Robert. Who’s gonna break it to him that Cal doesn’t have an undergrad sports medicine or management programs (at least as far as I know)?
