Around the Conference Table: ACC College Football 2025 - Week 4

Welcome back to Season 2 of Cal in the ACC. Let’s take a look at what our neighbors on the East Coast are doing.
Florida at 4 Miami (Miami wins 26-7)
Ben - Didn’t watch this game but a quick glance at the Box Score looks like a really boring game.
Piotr T Le - Miami looks to be the class of the ACC alongside GTech. Surprisingly there haven’t been as many issues with Mario being Mario on this one.
TD_24 - Rivalry game and all this wasn’t as explosive as I thought it would be. DJ Lagway may just redshirt and dip.
Kent State at 7 Florida State (Florida State wins 66-10)
Ben - expected.
TD_24 - I do think Florida State is meaningfully better but they still haven’t played anyone after Alabama.
Temple at 18 Georgia Tech (Georgia Tech wins 45-24)
Ben - expected.
TD_24 - The most unassuming game of the weekend. GT won and did what they had to do and Haynes King is still in one piece.
Syracuse at Clemson (Syracuse wins 34-21)
Ben - Do you think Dabo was surprised by the pulp in his OJ that morning? Also man heartbreaking for Steve Angeli. Oh and now Syracuse is faking injuries? Woof. Congrats to future UCLA Head Coach Dabo Swinney. Good luck with that mess!
Jesse Miller-Gordon - Coolest Dabo moment quickly followed by another damning loss. Fran Brown is a Mount Rushmore quote machine, to be sure, but he’s also a hell of a football coach, who’s doing some interesting things in Syracuse, with or without a breakout QB.
Piotr T Le - Coach Brown is the real deal and there is a chance he might get poached this year by an SEC team. He was the DL coach for Georgia, but he is a Northeasterner, maybe he wants to stay and build on his own backyard
TD_24 - Clemson is lucky the game was even this close, Syracuse throttled them from the jump. Sucks for QB Steve Angeli who is now out for the year but Fran Brown has the benefit of the doubt from me.
Wofford at Virginia Tech (Virginia Tech wins 38-6)
Ben - expected.
TD_24 - Is VT on Cal 2013 watch without the cool new QB? Maybe I’m thinking too far out loud.
SMU at TCU (SMU loses 24-35)
Ben - smu :(
Piotr T Le - Seeing Sonny happy does not give me joy. And his insistence in cancelling the Skillet rivalry only serves to deepen my distaste of him as a football person.
Jesse Miller-Gordon - Protect all the rivalries, especially the weird bitter Texan ones, please.
TD_24 - It’s crazy how vulnerable SMU is this season. Kevin Jennings is doing fine but the regression from the defense at every level is really alarming.
Bowling Green at Louisville (Louisville wins 40-17)
Ben - expected.
Jesse Miller-Gordon - The talent mismatch is palpable when you’re the visiting team and your hosts want to draft off your socials so they make a whole extra locker for your long snapper’s cat. Bless everyone.
TD_24 - Another complete bore fest from the Cardinals.
UNC at UCF (UNC loses 9-34)
Ben - Oh goodness. Bill is learning in real time why so many of us love College Football. Cannot wait to welcome him to Berkeley.
Piotr T Le - Second worst loss by an ACC team to a G5 opponent this week, but infinitely more memable. Do yourself a favor and look up UCF’s win graphic for this game.
Jesse Miller-Gordon - Each funny UNC loss places more and more weight on Cal’s impending Friday game against the Tar Heels. Also, good for UCF!
TD_24 - Yeah Cal needs to beat UNC holy they are bad
NC State at Duke (Duke wins 45-33)
Ben - Thought NC State would have this one but congrats to Duke! Great team that should definitely look past their trip to Berkeley.
TD_24 - Very very electric game between these two. I figured CJ Bailey would corral this one home but can’t turn the ball over as much as he did.
Stanford at Virginia (Stanford loses 20-48)
Ben - Ah Stanford.
Piotr T Le - If Stanford plays in Virginia and nobody watches, did it really happen? Well it did cause I watched it... I need more hobbies man.
Jesse Miller-Gordon - This game points to Virginia’s offensive strength this year, but also might say some pretty dark stuff about where the BC season is going.
TD_24 - I know Stanford is bad but Virginia looks like a capable team to me. That’s one game where my view has shifted when they come out west to play Cal.
Any other thoughts?
Piotr T Le - ACC is weak as a conference right now. A lot of Tier 1 teams playing down to Tier 2/3 and the worst teams seem even worse.
TD_24 - Get ready to learn night games at CMS the rest of the year.

We had our chance to earn day games. Blew it 0-34. Hopefully, we will learn from the (somewhat self-imposed) drubbing and it will be a one-off. I somehow still have faith that we can make a solid season out of this. Not sure why--probably because I'm a deluded Cal fan bleeding blue and gold. I'd prefer less spilled blue and gold blood, however.
