New Season, New Conference, New Table. Let’s take a look around the ACC.
Boston College at FSU (BC wins 28-13)
TD_24 - Ahem: HAHAHAHAHAAHA
Florida State retains sole possession of 17th place in the ACC
mpete91 - Whats to be said that hasn’t already been memed.
Christopher H - For the second week in a row, FSU's defensive line of NFL prospects was completely dominated in the trenches, with BC (like GT the week before) pretty much running the ball at will. And what the heck happened to the DJ Uiagalelei we saw at Oregon State? This team seems to be unable to handle adversity.
Bk97 - Our contract with Disney, the owner of this channel, has expired. We appreciate your patience while we negotiate to offer you greater flexibility, choice, and value.
Rob Hwang - College football is BACK baby!
Western Carolina at 24 NC State (NC State wins 38-21)
TD_24 - Team looks bad for a while against the FCS? Where have I seen this before......
mpete91 - A lot closer than that should have been, but history suggests NC State should be fine.
Christopher H - NC State was very much at risk to losing this one until they finally pulled away in the 4th quarter, with the final score making this game look like it wasn't as close as it was. QB Grayson McCall was unimpressive, while his receiver Kevin Concepcion was pretty much unstoppable.
Bk97 - During this game I learned that 1) Western Carolina is a university that exists, 2) a catamount is basically a puma/cougar/panther/mountain lion (why does the same animal need so many names?), and 3) NC State looked terrible, although I guess they figured out how to win in the 4th after I stopped watching.
Rob Hwang - This was way to close for a dark horse candidate to win the conference.
North Carolina A&T at Wake Forest (Wake Forest wins 45-13)
TD_24 - Copy and Paste my NC State comment
mpete91 - eh
Elon at Duke (Duke wins 26-3)
TD_24 - Mike Elko leaving the Blue Devils I think just takes the sails out of the program
mpete91 - Good to see someone from Duke finally beating an Elon up instead of using Elon to further the right-wing agenda.
Bk97 - It continues to be an embarrassing year for Elon. Oh wait, we're talking about football?
Rob Hwang - The amount of Elon jokes has probably been overdone but still hilarious.
UNC at Minnesota (UNC wins 19-17)
TD_24 - Honestly a gritty, character win for UNC. Hoping for the best for Max Johnson but its not looking good based on those injuries
mpete91 - hate to see Mack Brown succeeding.
Christopher H - Minnesota could not stop the slow but consistent rushing attack led by RB Omarion Hampton.
Rob Hwang - He [Mack Brown] CAN’T KEEP GETTING AWAY WITH THIS.
TCU at Stanford (Stanford loses 27-34)
TD_24 - Sonny Dykes finally beats Stanford......8 years too late
mpete91 - Congrats to Sonny for finally beating Stanford.
Christopher H - Neither of these teams looked very good, with Sonny Dykes's TCU squad committing all sorts of dumb penalties to keep Stanford drives alive, and they seemed completely unprepared for the rushing game of QB Ashton Daniels. Unfortunately for Stanford, that was pretty much their entire offense, with Stanford failing to get much going through the air. Conversely, the Stanford secondary didn't look great, and we're helpless to stop the TCU passing attack (and WR Savion Williams in particular), and kept giving up huge plays.
Rob Hwang - It was great to be at a game and to only be rooting for chaos, confusion and hilarity.
14 Clemson at 1 Georgia (Clemson loses 3-34)
TD_24 - Georgia won me money so I will not complain in the slightest
mpete91 - lmao
Christopher H - I want to make fun of Clemson for this one, but I remember a #1 Georgia team blowing out a very good Oregon team. Sometimes it takes more than a game for your team to figure it out. Just ask Brian Kelly.
19 Miami at Florida (Miami wins 41-17)
TD_24 - This is a scary result. I know Florida isn't that good but for Miami to walk into the swamp and kill them like this was alarming. They may just be the team to beat
mpete91 - Lmao
Christopher H - Surprised at this one, did not expect Miami to go into the Swamp and blow Florida out, I thought this one would be close. Miami is the most Pac-12 like team with Cam Ward and Damien Martinez anchoring the offense, so maybe not surprising that an SEC school couldn't handle the Pac-12's 6th best quarterback.
VT at Vanderbilt (VT loses 27-34 in OT)
TD_24 - All this offseason hype just to get taken to the woodshed by Diego Pavia. VT defense looked awful
mpete91 - Excuse me?
Christopher H - VT made a big comeback to push this one into OT, but their quarterback Kyron Drones was cramping up at the end there, and former Kent State/UCLA 3rd string QB Collin Schlee was unable to get the job done in overtime.
Austin Peay at Louisville (Louisville wins 62-0)
TD_24 - Did their job
mpete91 - Whats the point of these games
Rob Hwang - The only thing I know of Austin Peay is they have a really cool logo that I learned through CFB25.
Kent State at Pitt (Pitt wins 55-24)
TD_24 - Also did their job
mpete91 - pitt
Christopher H - Pitt entered with a QB controversy, but safe to say Alabama transfer QB Eli Holstein won the job, as Pitt put up a ton of offense in this one.
Ohio at Syracuse (Syracuse wins 38-22)
TD_24 - Was intrigued to see how Fran Brown and Kyle McCord came out in their first start and they passed. I want to see how this teams identity develops
mpete91 - ¯\_(ツ)_/¯
Christopher H - Ohio State transfer QB Kyle McCord looked sharp in the season opener for Syracuse, although they were expected to dominate Ohio.
Richmond at Virginia (Virginia wins 34-13)
TD_24 - Tony Elliott may be the first Power 4 coach fired this year although Billy Napier is giving him a run for his money
mpete91 - ¯\_(ツ)_/¯
Christopher H - Richmond is one of the better FCS squads, and they have upset Virginia before, so this one is a little bit better than some of these other ACC/FCS matchups.
Georgia State at Georgia Tech (Georgia Tech wins 35-12)
TD_24 - Had every right to come out flat but took care of business
mpete91 - ¯\_(ツ)_/¯
Houston Christian at SMU (SMU wins 59-7)
TD_24 - Nothing to glean from this game
mpete91 - Houston Christian? Is that a real school? And not a high school?
Christopher H - I watched this one. HCU was hopelessly overmatched, which is what I expect was the case in all these FCS blowouts.
Any other thoughts?
TD_24 - I continually think of the FSU Karen meme on twitter getting ready to call her lawyer about the ACC being too hard.
Christopher H - Maybe it shouldn't be such a surprise to me with so many new teams in a bigger conference, but there are some impressive QBs/passing attacks on some teams, and great offensive line/run games on others in the conference. At the very least, at least Cal won't be facing NFL-caliber QBs almost every week like they did last year, and there will be some variety in the offenses.
Bk97 - There are too many teams in this conference. How am I supposed to keep up with all these OOC games?
"...offer you greater flexibility, choice, and value." As contrasted with the state of no flexibility, the only choices being from your competitors, and zero value currently being provided.
I found all of the commentary to be hilarious.
