There are initial reports coming out this afternoon that Cal G/F Jaylon Tyson’s NCAA waiver claim has been denied by the NCAA. Nothing official has been released by the Cal Athletic Department yet.
Tyson, a junior with 2 year’s eligibility remaining, transferred in from Texas Tech. Tyson transferred after former Tech coach Mark Adams resigned late in the season, following a public reprimand and suspension for racially insensitive comments.
As mentioned in the roster overview, Tyson is one of Cal’s most talented players. A season-long loss would be a major blow to the program’s aspirations for the year. Cal will most likely appeal the decision. The season begins on November 6th when the Golden Bears host the Saint Thomas(Minnesota) Tommies.
This is just step 1 in the process. Cal plans to be very pro-active in the appeals process. Tyson has a good claim, so there is still a lot of hope for a favorable outcome. Its just going to take a bit.
Fwiw...big grain of salt, reddit posters infer that Tyson was central to the incidents that got Coach Mark Adams in trouble.
