Burl Toler to UCLA, Nyziah Hunter to Nebraska, Fernando Mendoza decision coming
Where are former California Golden Bears ending up?
For those wondering about where our departing California Golden Bears are ending up, here are the latest updates.
After being replaced by Kyle Cefalo, Burl Toler has found a new home at the Southern Branch. He will join Tino Sunseri’s offensive staff at UCLA.
Wide receiver Nyziah Hunter got a host of offers after entering the portal, and eventually decided on Nebraska, where he will be competing to be wide receiver #1.
Offensive lineman Matthew Wykoff is back in Texas, picking Houston as his new program.
Tight end J.T. Byrne is staying in the ACC, heading east to Georgia Tech.
Defensive back Brooklyn Cheek also entered the portal last week.
His new home is up north, where he decided on Wyoming.
Finally, quarterback Fernando Mendoza is closing in on a final decision according to On3 ($). Pete Nakos confirmed that Mendoza will be looking at Georgia, Indiana, UCLA and Wisconsin, so expect these to be the programs that will be in the hunt.
Georgia would be an open competition for the starting spot, which has high upside and huge downsides. Indiana could provide him a great chance to start on a playoff contender, as well as be with his brother Alberto. UCLA and Wisconsin are rebuilding projects, but he would be the favorite to start.
How bad would the last couple of years of Cal football have been without Fernando? Very very bad. I wish him the best.
Lots of buzz about Indiana...but that's sort of like your GF leaving you for a fat guy. Why?
