Cal Second-Team All-ACC Second Baseman Jarren Advincula has entered the transfer portal after posting a .342 average in 55 games for the Golden Bears in the Santa Clara native’s sophomore season. Advincula led Cal in hits (81), doubles (17), at-bats (237), stolen bases (13), multiple-hit games (26), three-hit games (11), and total bases (120)- while having the fourth most hits of all second basemen in the NCAA.
Advincula is a career .334 hitter and earned First-Team All-Pac-12 Honors in his 2024 Freshman season, being one of just five freshmen who made the 32-man team (along with his teammate PJ Moutzouridis).
Advincula also started in 109/110 games at Cal, which included a 19-game hitting streak and a reached-base safely streak of 27 straight games. Before coming to Berkeley, Advincula was an Archbishop Mitty Monarch, where he hit .412 with 15 doubles, four triples, and three home runs in three seasons in the South Bay.
Yeah, we all pretty much expected this. Gonna miss him. Played with such intensity and moxy, a great attitude on the field; his enthusiasm is infectious. Seemed to really love Cal. Again, this is sad news but I don’t know how anyone with his prospects could do anything but play the open market. Though, it seems like he’s already got an offer on the table, even before declaring. It seems that’s just the way it is now-you’re constantly being courted, and nobody is enforcing whatever anti-tampering reg exists. Let’s hope he goes to a team Cal doesn’t have to play next year.
Why should anything change? Just like basketball and football, the top players take off for greener pastures, all over the country. Cal athletics you are doing a great job being the minor leagues of college sports. I guess CAL is a step up from JUCO’s but on the same plain as maybe a D2team.
