Love the PETE NEWELL in big letters! As well as the state outline- says “Flagship!” Not super in love with all the whiteness instead of Gold.

Agree about the white. Having the name of the state taking up so much real estate on top of the outline of the state seems a bit much. Something like a Golden Bear image at the Bay Area location on the map would’ve been more useful for the tv audience.

THAT'S what it is. I couldn't put my finger on what was missing... it's the gold. We need some gold accents or distinguishing features.

Pardon my Which is the more iconic look? Unfortunately, hands down to me it is the deep blue, thick script Cal with the golden, wood-toned background. This new one is interesting for a minute but . . all white background and too much going on at mid court is not as stunning. Of course, winning will cure all, but it just seems like a lot of scurrying lately to rebrand the program now that the new conference membership is happening; the timing reeks a little of “We’re not worthy, we’re not worthy.” Do we really have to get a facelift? C’mon Bears, let’s just be ourselves and win. Enough of this superficial nonsense.

I like the focus on California as a state, but my personal opinion is that the word "Berkeley" should be included somewhere on the court, to help people subconsciously connect the school's identities. Not in the center court logo or any of the big logos, but in smaller letters somewhere. The school doesn't seem ready to do that, though.

California logo could be accented in gold all around the letters and state outline, with "University of California, Berkeley" above or below in the blue in small... maybe opposite HAAS PAVILION. Idk just a thought. Needs more gold either way lol

Though improvements could be made, I love it. I've said it many times before, Dykes was brilliant for having players run out of the tunnel with the California State flag at the start of our home games. Any marketing that ties the university to the state strengthens the brand as the flagship university.

Yes, all of this. I would even be in favor of a crazy California flag helmet design, like Maryland as that would help people realize we are the flagship school of California.

I don’t hate it. That’s better than most of the recent branding decisions.

The two blue strips at each end the court can be better utilized.

You forgot the floor painting in Harmon Gym, Oski as a Straw Hat band player, on the floor for decades until the renovation into Haas Pavilion. I think the move to connect "California" with the state is shrewd. It does connect the Bears with their origins as the representative of the state in athletics. Unfortunately it's a crude representation, but it's better than nothing. It could have had artistic images of Sather Gate and the Campanile under the script California.

Honestly, that's a bit much. I think they nailed it with simplicity. I have a few thoughts about the baseline design though.

Love the comments. Love the look. It’s time for a four-by-four to the forehead of all East Coasters that the team kicking their ass on the blond wood court is the flagship of the Golden State, please welcome your University of California Golden Bears.

1) We're moving to a new conference so being from California does set us apart.

I see the profile of a head, nose pointing to the Pacific, brain chopped off by the script California. Symbolic of the designers? Never going to not see this now.

When I saw the headline, I was afraid there was going to be a Big B on the court.

Or the outline of the state with Berkeley in script.

Though I like leaning into our flagship status, I find this look a little too modest. The bear was a bolder and more bold is what our programs need.

I love it. We need to start embracing things like this and the California state flag into our school and branding.

My only recommendation would have been making the outline color of the state of California gold rather than blue. Leave the California script in blue and make the outline of the state Gold would have been perfect as it would put both our school colors on the court and California is the Golden State.
